I have been using PSE3 for about three years, very happy with the program.
Recently, though the drive on my computer has reached the full mark, mostly from my 100Gb of photos. I purchased an external 320Gb drive (USB) and decided to migrate my photo files to the external drive. Six hours later, I'm (hopefully) finished, but the experience was the worst. I know (hope?) that there will be a better way to do this the next time and wonder if someone can tell me how to do this.
The two commands that I tried were the Move command and the Reconnect command.
I tried Move first, but when I tried experimenting with it, I found that if I move an entire folder, say my Digital Camera Photos folder, to the external drive, all the subfolders in the original folder were "lost", ie all the photos went into one big folder, Digital Camera Photos. I did not like this.
I could have moved each subfolder, one at a time, but I have hundreds of subfolders. More hours of work.
Next I just used the Windows Explorer to copy the Digatal Camera Photos folder to the new drive and used Reconnect to relink all the photos in the new drive. This meant many hours of reconnecting by hand, hundreds of photos.
So what is the best technique for migrating image folders from one hard drive to a new larger drive? What do I do when at some point, I buy a newer computer?
I would like to avoid this sort of trauma in the future.
Thanks for any help.
