This is my first post! In any forum ever! :-)

Anyway, when opening PSE Organizer tonight, I got a message to participate in a survey. Usually, I don't take surveys, but tonight I did.

While taking the survey, I read that PSE 6.0 will be released very soon.

The survey had many questions regarding the features I like and use in PSE 5 and what I would like in PSE 6.0. Judging from the kind of questions the survey asked I would guess that it is going to be more geared towards online sharing, online galleries etc. The survey also seemed to suggest that there will be different versions of PSE 6.0 (Standard, Premium) ranging (full version) from $99 to $149.

Just thought you guys here would be interested. (I search the forum regularly and am impressed with the many qualified answers)

Babs I took the survey also. Yes it does look like a new version is coming. I do like the Idea of an ultra or Premium version. Looks like Adobe is trying to look more like CS3. With a lot of features that would intermingle with the two. The only thing is that it seems like they just came out with PSE 5. I can understand if it was 2 or 3 years.... However by saying this I'll probably will buy it.

I agree, Randy. I didn't upgrade from PE2 until 5 came out. 6 will have to have something I really really want and will use before i upgrade to it.

Adobe seems to pop out new software every 18 months.

What would be great is if Adobe first introduces 6 as a Beta so that we could try it out like they did with CS3. That way we could evaluate the new version.

Randy,

Adobe usually offers a 30 day free trial. If nothing else, that helps in the decision making.

Got 4 and a couple months later, 5 came out.

I was going to wait for 6 to upgrade, but this is too soon for me. My version 4 is only a year old.

I'm not interested in more organizing and sharing

I'm interested in more styles and filters and that kind of stuff - maybe they'll have text along a path in the new version. That would surely interest me.

As for having a basic and premium version - I don't like that idea because I'm never happy with the basic program - I always feel like I'm missing something.

When you work with basic versions, it seems there is always a pop-up saying - "not available in this version"

That's like taking a kid to a candy store and telling him - you can't have any of the wonderful treats in this store.

But my thoughts on when 6 will be coming out? If they are polling people right now, 6 can't be coming out very soon, can it?

Those of us on Macs have been using the version 4 of PSE, and it is over a year old. The big problem with that is those of us with the new Intel CoreDuo Macs find ourselves with a horribly slow piece of software.

So, I hope that there is a new version for the Macs, too.

Thank you, Chuck. I signed up for Photoshop Elements User Magazine last month and browse frequently through the forum. There are so many helpful people here. Thank you for the warm welcome. :-)

I agree w/you. It is very annoying when you are trying to do something and you keep getting prompted that function is not available in this version and you have an option to upgrade. I have every release of Elements and it seems that I just purchased 5 a few months ago. But knowing me I will purchase 6 when its released.

If memory serves PSE5 came out Oct '06 so it isn't even a year old yet. If they are surveying it is still in the building process, so I could see it coming out in another 6 months or so.

I skipped from 3 to 5 because 4 just didn't have enough of what I wanted to make upgrading worthwhile. If 6 doesn't have at least a few things I really want I will be happy to wait for the next version.

I would like to see text on a path and the ability to make custom shapes.

Jane, I believe that 4 was the one to skip. Unfortunately, I didn't have the self-control to resist, so I bought 4 (kept the streak alive; now 1 through 5, inclusive). 5 has been my favorite, particularly since the RAW plug-in (ACR 4.1) works on non-RAW images (like JPEG).

Three Cheers for the text path! :D

Chuck... could you explain some more about this plug in?

Hi Jeannie ...

I suspect that Adobe will leave things like that out otherwise the gap between Photoshop and Elements would become too small :)

I would say the 3 things people want most:

1. Give us our global light back so we can change the direction of each shadow if we want.
2. Give us our Undo/Redo buttons back. (I don't care, but I know MANY do.)
3. Let us "Load" shapes, patterns, layer styles and stuff like we can "load" brushes so we don't bog down PSE.

1 and 3 would be my top two wishes. Ctrl-z and the history pallet work for me for #2, but I know how many people complained.

My wish list:
1) channels
2) real color curves
3) text opacity (that would be handy for all those who do scrapbooking)
4) compare view (like the x/y button in lightroom)
5) a more streamlined interface (similar to the lightroom interface)
6) in the editor mode a "tabbed view" (I miss this since switching over from Paintshop X)

I am not bothered by the missing undo button. Keyboard controls work much better for me (or alternatively the history palette).

Kimi: The Adobe Camera Raw plug-in has been part of Elements since PSE3 or maybe even PSE2. Up until now, it's been exclusively used for processing camera raw images, which not all cameras produce. It's sort of a "pre-post-processing" routine that allows you to make a number of color temperature, exposure, and sharpening adjustments before going into the Elements editor to complete the editing.

The latest versions (4.0 and 4.1) allow you to "Open As" a JPEG image into the ACR routine - not just RAW images. It doesn't turn a JPEG into a RAW by any means, but it does give a few additional options for editing. It's a free download; pops right into the Plugins folder. Personally, I think it's kinda fun - give it a try! The price is right.....

I just took the survey; it popped up just after I read this thread. There were a few questions where they didn't have a good answer. There was one towards the end asking what would make you more likely to use PSe (I think that was it?) and one of the answers was something like, "having a friendly user group to share ideas." There was no place to write, "That already exists!!"

Jane and Kimi: Here's the link to the download and instructions for installation from Adobe:

Here's a reference to an article about the plug-in's use:
