First post and I'm an Elements and IT novice - so please fogive any niave/daft questions! Have already searched through some of the threads which have helped me understand more but Im still not absolutely sure what I need to do. I use Elements 3 and have about 4000 photos many of which have been edited ie loads of time spent! Am planning to install Windows Vista operating system [my friend is doing this for me] which apparently means clearing the hard drive and then re installing all the programs and transferring back stored data [like my photos]. I have backed up all of the elements photos to an external drive which seems fine. I have 2 extra files at the end of the photos - 'My Catalog. buc' and 'Backup TLY'.

Do I simply re install Elements 3 onto the cleared hard drive, connect the external hard drive then use the Elements file>reconnect option to get all my photos back - edited, tagged and collections as I had prior to all this? Also can somebody please tell me what the Backup TLY file is and what it does?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Sandy

Hi Sandy

Welcome to the forums.:)

I can't comment on the reinstatement of your catalogue.

But be warned Vista is not a supported OS for PE3. I have not heard of anybody running the 2 together.

Sandy,
Apart from the question if PSE3 will run under Vista, you should be able to upgrade without having to clear the HD...

Hi Sandy,
It would not be file>reconnect, it would be file>restore.
This would bring up a popup window where you would choose to browse your EHD for the backup file.
