several days ago, in a thread on bringing out detail on dark skin, you explained a technique using Screen blend mode and a mask. You commented that you used it often on your husband's glasses.

Wow - this sure is 100% better than my past attempts with a Bright/Contrast masked adjustment layer.

Maybe I'm attempting to get "color that isn't there" - when you do this are you able to get skin tone behind the now lightened glasses?

Thanks for the great tip!

Rusty

PS - isn't that just the coolest raincoat; I wish I had one like that :)

Hi Rusty ...

You can only really use it to lighten the glasses a shade or two as the area under the dark glass will be a different colour ..

... but what you can try is:

Create a new layer above the image
Set the blend more of the layer to colour
Then sample a skin tone and using a soft brush paint over the area ..
You probably will need to drop the opacity of the layer too ... just to make it look a little more realistic :)

PS ... Hey that raincoat is so cute !!

Thanks, Wendy,

I'm actually beginning to figure this stuff out. I had a thought while awaiting your reply and ended up trying almost exactly what you suggested. I came to add to my post and, Shazam, there was your answer.

OK, I'll admit -- I didn't really figure it out all by myself. I remembered something else you helped me on months ago: making and saving gradients. I sampled from Chris' cheeks and now have a 3d "skin gradient" - "Skin Pink" :D

It works pretty well.
