Confused learner

I have just completed day 1 of the on-line Layers course. I don't know whether I missed something, but should I have particpated in it? The video confused me a bit. It seemed like he assumed I knew what he was doing? Where did he get the picture from? Was I supposed to do something with the picture? I don't have Winzip. Do I need to buy that too?

ferrous, if you have Windows XP, you can unzip the files found on the lesson page by right clicking. There is a menu option for unzipping.

If the Layers course is confusing, ask here on the forum about the part you don't understand. And watch the video several times. Try stopping the video at every step and trying it on PSE on your PC. It is confusing at the beginning, as is anything new we try to learn, but with the help of the friendly people on the forum and with patience, you will get it!!:)
