I was reading a thread earlier about the advantages of having a small P & S. I have one that is always with me. Today my sisters and I were having a sandwich at an outdoor cafe and this little girl was in her stroller. I immediately got out my camera and asked the Mom if I could take a photo. The sun was bright but this is what I came up with. The Mom gave me her card and I e-mailed her the photos and she was thrilled. Here is one of them. I just smudged the background. It was a street and cars. I find this the easiest way getting rid of an unwanted background.

Shari- What a cute photo! I like the way the background is, too. I haven't used that method but it definitely works.

Shari, that photo is a hoot! Great subject and treatment...
Just think: 39 years from now, that picture will appear in the local newspaper with the caption: "Lordy, lordy, look who's turned forty!"

great shot, no wonder Mum was thrilled with it.
Lot to be said for point and shoot when it comes to quick shots.

Thanks everyone. I wonder if you could make a business of snapping photos - getting their e-mail address - and sending them the photos. Just kidding - but I have done several of dogs and sent them to their owners. I just love my hobby. Kim - I just tried that smudging one day when I could not be bothered to take the time to do a selection. I liked the way it worked and now use it a lot. You have to have a background with lots of action to smudge. I think in PSE5 I used the impressionist brush to do the same thing.
