Hello to all in the forum. I have been reading the forum for some time now -well, about three months, and like most beginners I am so bamboozled with photoshop. But I do think the people here are very nice, that comes through loud and clear, and I really enjoy reading your posts and viewing your work, even if it does make me jealous at times!!! I sort of get the impression I should subscribe to make things easier for me, but don't think my computer is geared up to cope with video tutorials. I have looked at a few free video tuts, and my computer keeps 'buffering' whatever that means, and it takes such a long time to view anything. Any suggestions?

Hello,

Just wanted to say WELCOME to the forum! You've come to the right place to read the posts (which include a lot of tutorials/directions for getting a certain effect) and ask questions when you're trying something that you need help with.

I can't answer the question about the videos, someone who knows more about computers and what is required will have to do that! A subscription also includes many written tutorials and a printed newsletter 8 times a year, but I think many will agree that the videos can't be beat for learning the program.

Again, WELCOME!:)

Welcome, Just saying hello.
You've arrived at a great place with this group. I do not know much about the video access troubles, but I do think it can deal with the type of internet service one has. Like Kim stated above, I too am sure one of the tech 'experts' will be along soon.
I tend to utilize more of the written tutorials than the videos.
I just renewed my 2 year membership. I've been real happy here.

Thanks guys for your responses. It was amazing to be 'in' the forum, rather than 'eavesdropping' or should that be 'eyesdropping' as I have been for the last few months. It feels like I have made a commitment of some kind if that makes sense. So much to learn, so little time to do it in!

So much to learn, so little time to do it in!

But what fun it is while you're learning!:D

Welcome. It's nice to have another West Aussie on board - I think that makes 4 of us.

Look forward to seeing some of your work.

Sue

Hi Nan,

If you have a dialup modem, rather than a high-speed, DSL connection, you may have a problem watching video tutorials right from the website. I, also, have a dialup connection. What I do is download the video tutorials (it takes about an hour for one) and then save it to my hard drive for watching right from my computer when I am offline.

Hi Nan, welcome to the forum :)
As others have said, besides the videos, subscribing gets you the written tutorials and 8 newsletters per annum in the mail.
Do what's best for you, you don't have to be a subscriber.
Elements can be real scary till you get to know it a bit and there's lots of people here to help you out.
Maybe try getting involved in the weekly Creative Homework and Photo Theme, they are fun to do :)

Thanks everybody for the tips. It was lovely to hear from you all. And I am going to keep at it!! Am still trying to decide whether this makes me stubborn or stupid. Might have to invest in a new computer......mmmm, this could get to be an expensive hobby. But I dream of the day I produce stuff anywhere near what I see in the gallery and that justifies the expense. It does....it does... it does.....
doesn't it?

Nan,

You will be surprised at how fast it comes. The suggestion about the "weekly homework" and the "weekly photo theme" is a good one.

And, ask lots of Qs. The nice people here are glad to help.

From one sandgroper to another, welcome to our corner of cyber world. As others have said, you will soon be doing things automatically and producing really amazing images.

Hi Karen, we have actually communicated before. You very kindly sent me a tutorial for the church via email. (Toni) I gave it a go, and got further than I did before thanks to your tut. But oh boy, I have enough knowledge of photoshop now to know how much I don't know. I look forward to the learning curve and am already planning where I can 'steal' time from to devote to it. cheers

Toni,

I did not recognize you (:D). Glad my tutorial on the Church helped you. The more you learn, the more you learn and in no time at all you will be as good as the rest of us - believe me. When I started, I never ever thought I would be able to do the things I am doing.

Karen :)
