I just bought the Adobe elements 5.0 the other day and I wanted to know is there a smudger with this software? A friend of mine has the Photoshop CS2 and she's able to manipulate the size of people's arms and shapes for her fashion design class. Does anyone know if we have this feature with this software? I really don't want to spend the money on Photoshop CS. It's way too expensive for my budget.
Thank you for your help!

Hi there ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
I'm not really sure what you mean by a smudger ... but Elements does have a Smudge Tool although for manipulating shapes I would be more likely to use the Liquify tool (which Elements also has)

Hi Wendy,
How exactly do you use the liquidfying tool in elements and what all can it do for my pictures? I really appreciate all of your help ;)

Welcome Ramslady to the site, here is a chart with the names of the tools. Feel free to ask any questions, we have some very knowledgeable people here.
:D hmmm, I'll have to edit this chart. this is from 3.0. sorry.

Hi and welcome to the forum,
What you want is the Warp Tool which is found in Filters > Distort >Liquify. It will open your photo up in a new window. You can zoom in on the area of the photo you want to work on with the Zoom Tool (looks like a magnifying glass). Then use the Warp Tool (first one in the tool bar). Resize your brush with the bracket tools ] for larger and [ for smaller. Then push on the the edges to move them inward or outward. It doesn't blur the pixels like using the Smudge tool in the regular toolbar. It will take some experimentation to get it to do what you want it to. Just play with it, it's a lot of fun. You can make someone's mouth smile, or make a caricature of someone's face by distorting the nose, eyes, chin, etc.

Hi Ramslady, welcome to the Forum,
You will find lots of nice people here with help for just about any question.
Liquify is easy to use and pretty fun as well. I'm working hard on "five pounds", too bad it isn't as easy as in Elements. Liquify is in your filter menu:
Filter > Distort > Liquify (I have exaggerated the effect here)

Note that it's going to distort whatever is right next to whatever you are "moving". I could have cloned-out that sign or, better yet, selected it and copied to another layer and then put it back in.
You can get realistic results with the proper background and, go slow :)

(I was trying to convince my daughter that I really was working hard) :D

Thank you everyone for helping me out with Elements. I can't wait to get home so I start using it again and applying all of your tips.
Diana,
I saw some of your images and they really blew me away! You are very talented! I definitely want to try some of those ideas once I become more seasoned with the software. Thank you for all of your help! :)

Hi Diana,
How do I sign my name?
Hi Nina (see I found your name).
I just type my name at the bottom of my message. My signature contains a link to my gallery and a quotation that I like.
Check your PM (private messages--click right below where it says Welcome, Ramslady in the upper right area). I sent you a message.
