Using PE5. I attempted to uninstall downloaded brushes by removing them from the brushes folder. Although they no longer show there, they still show in the application even after clearing the recycle bin and restarting my computer. Also, although I do not have gradients other than what was in the original program, PE5 takes a long time to load and the part that seems to take the longest is when it says, "reading gradients." Suggestions, please.

Try holding down the "Shift" key as you start the editor. It will rebuild some of the things and perhaps it will fix the brushes.
If that doesn't work, then you will need to reset the preferences. To do that, you hold ctrl-alt-shift as you start the editor. You will get a dialog asking if you want to delete preferences - say Yes or Okay. If you don't get the dialog, you didn't hit the 3 keys in time. It can take two or three tries to get the timing just right.

Thank you so much, you are wonderful! Now PE5 loads remarkably faster--within a matter of seconds instead of a couple of minutes. And, I feel my files are cleaner. Okay, elements users with tidbits of useful maintenance info like this, please continue to enlighten poor little novices like me. There may be things going on in the program behind the scenes that we can't see, but are slowing down the work process and computer efficiency. Thanks again to Trish!
