Gosh Pauline- lots of people are afraid of clowns and every one should be of Bush so that is just too much. I'm guessing it's for How to Cheat and it is wonderful . What is most impressive is your painting skills.

Wow Pauline what an incredible job. You are really good with the painting technique.

Yes Ellen, it was for this weeks, "howtocheatinphotoshop.com" I found this one pretty easy. It was more like a fun piece since it didn't have to end up resembling anyone! My daughter was only pleased with her painting after I changed her hair. No one to please with this one but myself.
Take the chalk brush for a spin. It really is fun to work with.
Thanks Kim. I seemed to have caught on to this technique now.

Pauline - that is incredible. Did you do that in Photoshop? I would not know where to begin - but maybe one day.

Yes Shari, all done in photoshop. Unless I stated otherwise, I'm keeping my gallery here all photoshop, since I have one for painter and a link to that site. That way it's less confusing.
For this particular one since his entire face was being covered in another colour what I did was make a dupllicate copy of his face and turn it to grey scale, so I could see the difference easier. I then applied various shades of grey/white pastels on his face following the contours of his face and following the different shades. Once I had it the way I liked it, I threw away the grey scale copy and left the colour image underneath. Because his face is painted I wanted some of the skin tones to show through and not just look like a full paint coverage. Then I smudged the paint onto his face again following the contours. The rest was just make it up as I go along for the hair, hat and tie, etc.

Thanks Norma. I've always been a detail person. The hard part for me is loosening up. I tend to make things too realistic so that all my hard works ends up looking photorealistic......I need to find that inbetween stage.

Making Bush a clown is easy, try making him look smart, now there's a challenge. Kidding aside, nice job Pauline.

Hi Andie- here's a link to "How to Cheat" It's a site for Steve Caplin's books of the same name which are quite fun as is the challenge area. It's beyond me but fun to visit.

Andie and Ellen the challenges at how to cheat are fun. While you might think they are beyond you, really they aren't. They are a great way to learn. The nice thing is that on Fridays Steve critiques everyone's work. Look at one of the previous Fridays. Usually the last or second last page contains his critiques. He puts a link to each picture he is talking about and give a little critique.
I know a lot of people are afraid of being critiqued, but Steve isn't nasty about it and it is the best way to learn. I read everyone's critique. You don't just learn by reading your own, but get the advice given to everyone and learn from it. I open the picture in minimized screen beside the critique and look at it while reading so I know what he's talking about. It's an excellent way to improve your skills and well as being a lot of fun. All new members are welcome. It doesn't matter if you own his books or not.
Also I should point out that you do not have to own cs2 to do these challenges. You might have to work a little harder to do stuff with elements but in the end, usually it can still be done.
