I've been using Elements for a little over a year and all of a sudden I can't download images. Same camera, same computer, same Elements. I get this message wether I just connect to the camera or take out the memory card and insert it into the computer:
Adobe Photoshop Elements can not obtain files from this device. Please ensure the device is connected properly, or that the battery is charged, then try again.
What's going on here?
Thank You!

Hi MommaBear and welcome. Are you on a PC and if so what Windows system do you have? Try to reinstall your cameras software. If that doesn't work and you are running XP try doing a system restore to before the problem started.

Is This happening with a card reader built into your computer as well as directly connecting your camera?
If it just happens when you attach the camera -- you might try reinstalling the drivers for the camera.
If it happens to all avenues of getting pictures -- try resetting preferences to see if that will change the way it works.
Another approach would be to reboot the computer if you leave it on all the time.

It happens with both avenues.
Reset the preferences within Elements? To what?
I have tried rebooting - it still doesn't work.

Yes, a PC. We have Windows XP I believe.
I don't remember installing "camera software" - something from Nikon? Or reinstalling Elements?

mambear,
Please excuse if this is a bad guess, but here is my best guess.....
(I am basing this on my setup, Photoshop Elements 3.0)
Organizer
Edit Menu
Preferences
Camera or Card Reader
Import
Is there a check off next to "Use Adobe Photoshop Downloader to get photos from Camera or Card Reader"? If not, check it off and see what happens.

Yes, there is already a check next to the box. I needed the images for our business so I finally downloaded them using Correll and then imported the files from the file folder that created. I'm able to edit images still.
It's just so frustrating not to be able to just download the files straight to Elements.

Mamabear,
Since nothing else seems to be co-operating, what do you think about this?
The memory card that you are using....have you been using it since day 1? If so,
You could remove all of your files from this memory card (delete or move anywhere off the card) and in addition reformat the card (even if you think that it is blank already). If all that seems a bother, maybe try a new blank memory card, but be sure to reformat it in the camera even with it being new
and blank. Put some new shots back on the card and try download from camera (with electrical cord) to computer and as well as from memory card/memory card reader/computer.
Memory cards can become corrupt. At this time I have no logic explanation for why Photoshop Elements will not do the download whereas other software will.
I will think about this some more.

mamabear,
Just "one plus" more question....you said that everything is the same as before the problem set in with respect to this specific camera/memory card/computer/Photoshop Elements direct download problem. But, have you added anything to your computer system since this all worked OK? Maybe, another Adobe product? Other? What about the compatibility of this Corel with Adobe?
About connection...."camera/USB cable/Computer/Adobe Photo Downloader" does not work...."memory card/memory card reader/USB cable/Computer/Adobe Photo Downloader" does not work.....by any chance are you using the same USB cable in each scenario? A USB cable problem?

Hi
Just a thought
Try using a different set of cables
I once had a SATA drive that was causing me untold grief
tracked it down to a faulty bit of wire / connection
