I've signed up for the Creative class and sound is badly garbled, essentially unintelligible. Also, I do not see a button or other item to download a podcast. Is that only a TV item for the iPod?
Here is my connection speed at speedtest.net currently; I've never had a problem as long as I've had DSL (abt 6 years). I've downloaded music and watched commercial video any number of times on Quicktime or WMP.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/128975073.png (http://www.speedtest.net)
The first test shows 1737 kb/s down, 204 kb/s up on my MacBookPro (on a wireless network), and the iMac connected to the Belkin router is 1651 kb/s down, 321/up. Earthlink is the ISP and AT&T formerly SBC is the POTS company.
The sound is badly garbled and unintelligible. Obviously something is wrong.
I did not see the PodCast for the Creative class. What am I missing?
Thanks for the help.

I've also listened to streaming audio on both machines using my current connection. One was while connected to my wonderful Onkyo amplifier and played over Bose speakers -- the music sounded delightful.

Well, the third time I tried to log in, it all worked. Sound was fine, the resolution of the video was not the greatest, but it'll do. My screen here is set at the highest resolution possible, 1600 something.

I haven't taken a class for a while but I think they are flash not quicktime.
So they are streamed.. I think sometimes the servers are just slow or busy.
Fridays seem to be the worst lots of new videos and and whole bunch of people trying to see them. Don't know why Monday would pose a problem.

Hi Dave ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
I just tried out the Layers class and that seems to be streaming OK at the moment so the Creative class should be working OK too ...

Hi,
On our FAQ page for the Flash Online Courses the following link for speed testing and minimum speed of 3000kb is listed, (Please visit http://speedtest.net/ to test your connection speed. If the download speed is less than 3000 kbps, then your connection is not fast enough to view these courses properly.)
Your posted connection speed of 1705kb is considerably slower than the listed speed needed to view the course properly. Perhaps this was just a slow speed test for you but if you continue to have speeds in the same range, you can contact customer service for a refund on your class.
Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

I tried that test a few times and my download speed is consistently even lower than this, about 1200kb, and yet I've never had a problem with any of the online courses....

Hey Bayla,
the posted 3000kbps is what the specs are and that we say you need to have to have no issues with the streaming...
You as well as many others have somewhat slower connection speeds and have no problems, others do, so the 3000kb benchmark is there so that we know if you have that speed you are going to be able to view the lessons just fine:) Other results can and will vary as you can view at 1200 with no issues yet someone else is unable to view at 1700 hence the bar of 3000.
Hope that clears up the confusion.
Tami:)

For lesson 2 in Creative this morning, the session kept cutting in and out.
I believe that most home DSL or Cable connections are nowhere near 3000 kb/s (3.0 mb/s). Maybe a T1, but that's usually used by businesses only.
The local telephone company AT&T maximum DSL is up to 1.5 mb/s, unless one is willing to pay exhorbitant extra fees. Why does Adobe specify 3.0 mb/s when few if anyone has that?

According to a couple websites I found in a Google search, "normal" cable modem download bandwidths range from 1 to 6 mbps, while DSL tops out about 3 mbps. I agree that the specs for the training downloads are pretty demanding. I wonder what other factors affect the ability to download at lower (and more reasonable) bandwiths? Evidently some folks with lower bandwidths have successfully worked with the training materials....

Hi Chuck ...
I find this whole thing quite confusing as my ADSL speed is 1269 :confused: and I have very few problems viewing the classes
Dave ... this site doesn't actually belong to Adobe

Wendy, I'll bet your Mac has some sort of little accelerator that makes the whole download process more efficient! :)

So I will just put it down to the magic of owning a Mac :) :) ... yet another good reason for owning one :)

Wendy is correct, this site is not an Adobe site.
As for the 3000kb speed requirement that is determined Flash, not something we require:)
Perhaps if you tried later in the day, it might help but not at 5ish when everyone would be checking the mail and whatnot. On a DSL line, the more people in your area that are using it at the same time you are the slower the speed will be for all of you:(
Hopefully it will workout for you, if not please be sure to contact CS to get a refund.

Somewhere I thought I read on this website that Podcasts were available. If so, I'd like to obtain those. Also, that would enable me to review the lessons later and keep them for reference. It's just impossible to remember everything, especially when you're an ol' f**t and have CRS Syndrome.
I really don't want a refund. My goal is to learn more about the PSE program and improve my photography.

Dave,
The podcasts are not the online training they are a technique a week that Corey does, if you go to the homepage www.photoshopelementsuser.com (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com)
and click on the killer tips graphic in the upper middle of the page it will take you to a list of them you can download:)

fyi....that is generally more true for cable, not so much for DSL at the neighborhood level. But then, we are all competing for the bandwidth on the 'net. That's one of the reasons our connections may be faster or slower at any given time.

Just saying what the DSL guy told me when I was inquiring about speed issues, I'm not an internet specialist just trying to find reasons why people might be having a problem.

Yeah...it all ends up in the same pipe eventually. And with the newer iterations of DSL available and the volume of people using it nowadays, it may be becoming more of an issue. I'm on Roadrunner also and ran the speed test, but am not quite getting the numbers you show. It looks like you have their "premium" service. :)

Funnily enough I don't have a particularly fast DSL line most of the time. Last night I could just about get 1500 kps. This morning connecting to Tampa it was 4300 kps. So it all depends on the time of the day.
The Ontario average is 3500 kps and my time this morning puts me in the top 22% of Global connections to Tampa.
I don't usually have too many problems viewing videos but it does depend on the time of the day.

Here's mine for this morning:

That was my best test so far. My worst was connecting to Salt Lake City, UT, which incidentally had the best ping time. Go figure.......

Actually I think Tami should be testing her speed with some of the servers in the rest of the world - not Tampa 10 miles away. I've noticed a big drop in speed when you connect to far away places which is where many of us are :)

Since our servers are located in a Tampa, FL data center; the most accurate test would be for everyone to connect to the Tampa speed test server from your location. :D

I'm still having problems. At my business location 6 miles away, the test showed 1300 or so kb/s. This morning here at home it shows:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/130451837.png (http://www.speedtest.net)
At my office, AT&T (the ISP) tells me the max is 1500, unless I want a T1 line, and I'm not going to spend that kind of money just to take an Adobe $20 class.
I've never had this problem before with any streaming video-audio.
I don't understand how all of you are getting 4000 or 6000 kb/s?
The lessons are cutting out, stopping, then restarting, etc.
A real problem.

AT&T the local phone company has just told me the max speed here at home is 1500 kb/s download, much less upload.
I'm really surprised whoever designed these courses did so for 3000 kb/s.

Hi:
My test was only in the 900's (and that was testing it from my home in Toronto to the testing site in Toronto), but I have had no problem viewing the videos.
I hope you can get it worked out.

The local cable company Cox.net told me their standard connect speed is up to 7000 kb/s. I asked some friends who are nearby to test the connection using speedtest.net. And, with all Cox's offerings of added services, I can basically get telephone service for no additional cost along with internet service. But, if we make the switch I'll lose my Earthlink email addy, which I've had for nearly 5 years.
It may be worth it to get the higher speed, especially since I plan to try taking several of these Adobe PSE classes. Cost is essentially the same and get the local phone service thrown in.

DSL in my area for basic service only offers 768 kbs or up to 3 mbs with their premium residential plan download speeds. And I still can't DSL at home. Not that I want it anyway since I'm on Roadrunner and have been very pleased with it.
And I'm on TWC and their VOIP phone service is about $39 a month. I'm on Vonage's basic plan ($14.99) and have also been quite pleased with it.
