I have noticed that the PSE 5.0 is slower than the 4.0. Has anybody else noticed this? When delelting in the catalogue mode it takes a lot longer than the 4.0 version. I have a 3.0 ghz dual core with 500 gig hard drive with 2 gig ram. Is ther any way to speed this up? or am I doing this the wrong way
Thanks

Chris,
I wish I could answer your question but i have to add my 2 cents worth...
I have the same computer and 5.0 is SLOW! I don't understand but I hope someone will it in their hearts to answer your question.
It's hard enough to learn all there is about PSE but having it slow just adds to the frustration:(
Wish I could help....

Hi ...
I suspect that one of the problems is that they add more things into each version so they do tend to be a little slower than the previous one ...
Hopefully one of the Windows users may able able to make suggestions on how you can speed it up :)

I tend to accept that 5 is slow, however I would suggest that you close down any unused programmes to make it run faster. Your Anti-Virus etc are the obvious candidates:)
Please remember to reactivate before you access the web again;)

Hi Chris,
Strangely this has just come up in another thread (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23683). Thanks to Ted for noticing.....
This is a very difficult question to address, because what is slow to one person may not seem slow to another. And as Wendy says, the continual increase in the feature set has consequences.
However, for a simple operation like deleting an image file, I suspect that the problem is not actually with PSE, but with your machine's general state of health. A machine of the spec you & Laurie are running should be eating simple operations.
Do you keep your hard drive defragmented? If you don't, that may be at the root of the difference - possibly the PSE5 program installation is itself fragmented, whereas the v4 one isn't, just because it was installed onto a less cluttered drive.
Also, make sure you've done a catalog recovery, so that the catalog is in good shape, and compacted.
In the other thread I did mention using a registry cleaner. That may well improve matters, but they can be dangerous. If you go down that road, choose a good one, and use it with caution.
