Is there an online course for learning to use layers?

I have been using Elements 2 and now Elements 3 for about 3 years and have yet to figure out layers. I read my Elements users guides and spend hours in Elements Help but I still don't get it.
I enjoy using most of the Elements tools, filters, etc. but I can only work on a single image plane which I think would be the background layer if I was using layers. I start over a lot.

Open to suggestions on learning to use layers.

Thanks,
Walter, retired photographer

Welcome to the forum,
If you look above and a bit to the right you will see "online training". Click there for info. on the layers course. And..ask lots of questions. There is always someone around to help out.

Walter,

Welcome to the forum. There is an on-line layers course available; there is a lesson every day for 21 days but the course is avaiable to you for 60 days. I have did the course when I had PSE4, don't know about doing when you are using PSE3; maybe some one esle can let you know about this.

As I remember they use PSE 4 and link by clicking -- in PSE 3 you have to link using the chain icon to get the same effect.

Welcome to the forum Walter.
I'm in the middle of doing the Layers course (on day 14 today) and I'm finding it really good, and great value.

If you go ahead and do the course, it is a good idea to print out the pdf file each day and jot down some notes.

Charles and others,

Wow, what a friendly group. I almost didn't send my original post as I expected to be shot down by diehard Photoshop users. Not the case if you read all the replys. Thanks for the link in your welcome email.

I am trying to sign up for the Layers course but I keep geting an error message telling me my email address and password don't match. and when I requested that my password to be sent to me I received another error message about my email address. The strange thing is my browser has my email address memorized so all I have to do is double click on an email request box and it is filled in automatically. My password is the same one I have used for all groups in last 2 years. I could not get it wrong.

I would register a second time, but I am sure I will be told that my email address is already in use by a Elements Forum member which would be me.

Open for suggestions,
Walter Holt

Charles and others,

Please disregard my last post. I need to learn to read.
I was trying to log-in as a returning student. I successfully registered below that area as a new student and my log-in was automatic. Sorry if I triggered any trouble shooting efforts by you or other forum members

Walter,

I am glad you were able to finally get subscribed to the Online Layers Class. Matt K. is a fantastic teacher and easy to follow.

The next time you post a message; before clicking on Submit Reply scroll down a bit and look for Thread Subscription then just below that
look for Notification Type and select one of the options there. I use Instant email notification. When you do this one time, it will always be set. After that you will be notified by email whenever there is a reply to your question and a link in the email that will take you to the correct Thread.

If you scroll down even farther you will see the previous messages left by you or other users here if you need to jog your memory (like I do alot!) as to what everyone said.

Anytime you have a question be sure to ask a question. Some one will have an answer for you :D
