View Full Version : Creating PE5 Slide Shows For Digital Frames

OK, I’m late on the technology – I just found out about Digital Picture Frames and have just begun my research. The desired end result: A PE 5.0 created slide show with music and all the PE bells and whistles on my PC, then downloaded to a flash card and sent to the recipient. Is this possible? Is there a brand/model of Digital Frame which works best with PE 5.0.? Are there other considerations I should keep in mind?

Thank you,
K

I don't have one yet but in looking at some of the specs it would appear that many just play jpegs not the video files that PSE5 slide shows create and I'm not clear what the benefit would be (if you did find one that played video files) versus burning a DVD for playing on a DVD player. On the other hand I'm also not sure what the attraction of a Digital Picture Frame is versus a DVD player that plays JPEGs. I guess portability is one but I have a portable DVD player that plays JPEGs so maybe the only benefit is being able to use a flash card.

Maybe someone who has one can enlighten us :)

I don't have one yet either.But they are cool.:D

I had never thought of Tony's point on a portable DVD.. right now they are pretty much the same price as a photo frame. With the ability to play premade DVD slideshows.

I guess esthetically the frames look nicer and the ability to just pop in a memory card is neat as well.

I just purchased one for my in-laws as they live in their 40-foot RV and space is limited. The one I bought was inexpensive and only supports jpg format, there were some more expensive ones that supported some of the video formats.

I really do want one of these so thank for the info :)

My husband suggested that I use our old computer (that superb half snowball shaped Mac) but I think that its too big ... and a little too futuristic to fit into my lounge :D :D

I got one for Christmas and haven't fiddled with it yet except briefly. I used an unedited disk straight from the camera and was not really happy with the rresults. The pics were oriented in both landscape and portrait so they looked funny in the frame.

This is a stupid question, probably, but do people edit their pictures and save them as JPEGS and then put them on the compact flash disks? If so, how do you get it on the little compact flash disk to make them useable in the frame? Can you use those little compact flash disks like you do any other disk and save to it from the computer?
Thanks - Andie

If you use a card reader, then moving your files to a memory card is just like any other drive.
If you use your camera directly connected to your computer then I think it depends on the camera as to whether or not you can move your files to it and what type of files can be moved.

Hope this helps.:)

That is right. :)

Sometimes, once the card is in, it will have the name of the card or some other sort of designation as to something being in there.

My reader shows Canon EOS when my card is in (I format the card in my camera, so that must be where the name comes from).

OkeyDokey Gary- I will give it a try sometime this week. It would be fun to have a digital frame with my favorite pictures sitting on my desk at work! Thanks for the help. Andie

First, I have since decided to create my slideshow and output it to a DVD and have the slideshow viewed in the Windows Media Center or Player. Regarding the question on how to write to a flash card. You can find USB connected flash card read/write devices for around $30.00. One source is avetecsolutions.com
