Jodi,
I've used Shutterfly twice now.
One was for a 16x20 (I had to scan at first -then stitch together), and the other was an 11x14, (that I made, but had to re-resolution it with the 'math' formula )
Both came out great. I have the 11x14 framed, and the e16x20, is at school.
I'm getting ready to send some more their way.

Jodi,
I used Shutterfly for a poster last fall at the end of soccer season. I made the poster 16X20 but some of the parents ordered it as an 11X14 - that didn't give good results just as I had expected. The 16X20's were great; good color and clarity. The posters were well packaged and delivered in a timely manner.

Thank you both ! By the way...when ordering did they give you specifics on the ideal ppi for such larger prints ?

I have to ask...regarding Costco...
does one have to be a paid member to use, or do you have to live near one, or can it all be done (like Shutterfly) ...what is their deal?

Michelle - I think you have to be a member of Costco to use their services but I am not 100% sure. I get mine done from a printer up the street - tabloid size 11 3/4 x 16 1/2 that just fits an Ikea frame. That is laser but great for poster type. Cost to have printed on 80 lb. $1.70 while I wait.
Has anyone from CANADA ordered from Shutterfly? Wondered what they do about pricing and delivery???

You have some very nice images in your gallery. Good luck with the poster. Let us know how it turns out.

Jodi, I use Shutterfly for to print images for my LLC for band and gym portraits. I've printed up to 16X20 and I've seen nothing but exceptional quality out of them. The only quirk I've had is cropping. Make sure your input image matches the ratio of the output image. Their cropping process can be unpredictable otherwise.
I did not receive any input from them about PPI. All I did was send them my JPG (flattened from a PSD) at the "out of camera" size (4-6 MP 300D images) and the 16X20 had 0, zero, nada, zilch artifacts or pixelation on any of them.
I have a need to print LARGER images and I will have to go elsewhere.
Good to see their prices come down. I picked them primarily because of their ease of use of setting up a store site. Others offer similar services, higher and lower prices, but none as idiot (Brice) proof. :)
I am considering going to a ROES based site or somewhere that would allow me to have a more professional appearance to clients. I'd like to offer packages, special sizes, templates, etc and Shutterfly isn't set up for that kind of offering.

Brice - I still use Shutterfly for the ease of parents ordering the game shots, but I've moved team and player pics and some portrait work to MPIX (http://www.MPIX.com) . They offer the ROES package. I've not used it, but their online upload was very easy to use; especially the cropping.
MPIX is a division of Millers Labs (http://www.millerslab.com). I use Millers too as they offer the online web gallery for customer ordering - MPIX doesn't have that yet. I've been very happy with their quality and fast service.

I use costco. Their rices and workmanship have been great...momey back guarantee! their 11 x 14 's and 12 x 18's are only 2.99 and are usually done within an hour or two. One word of advice: Turn their auto correct off! they also offer a service to get larger size posters done, but they are out of a place in GA. they are mail order and cost 9.99. Haven't done one of those....YET!!!!
Not to be stupid :D, but what is ROES????????

Colleen - glad to see you back online. Hope the recovery process is moving along quickly for you.
ROES is a standalone workflow software. It can be helpful when ordering packages of pictures. Like with a sports team or prom pictures you may offer a Package A - composite + wallets+ button+ magazine cover. Package B, C D etc each offer some other combination. It can be really time consuming placing that order as individual items with the printer (voice of experience talking :D). The way I understand ROES it is a standalone piece of software that lets you build the packages, choose the images, then upload the completed combination to the printer - in this case MPIX. Some printers (Millers) offer similar workflow with the their online upload, but that's not practical for a person without high speed DSL or cable modems.

Thanks again for all the feedback on this. No Coscos in my area though so will give Shutterfly a try....thinking 16 X 20 would probably be a good choice considering the lack of wall space I have. Thanks again.

Jodi, I've used Shutterfly off and on for years, and always get very good results at very fair prices. I think you'll be pleased, and find their work worth it. Harvey

I have used both services and happy with both results.
Shutterfly has better customer service by far. Had some trouble with slow processing from winkflash last christmas and could never get a hold of them. But, the do nice work.
I joined shutterfly's club for $30 and get 30% off prints. Turns out it has saved lots of money.

I have used both Winkflash and Shutterfly and the quality of the prints was very good. Winkflash has terrible customer service, however, and if you have a problem (like an order never showing up) you will have a devil of a time getting a credit. The credit card was charged on 4-14-07 and the credit did not post until 6-1-07 even though they acknowledged the disappearance of the order on 5-7-07.
As for Shutterfly, I love the quality of their prints, but the cropping is very problematic. I always pre-crop to 4x6 and then use their print preview "just to be certain". Unfortunately, every single print in my recent 99 print order, was cropped differently than the preview. If there is no frame or text, I am the only one who notices, but when I have included a special frame or a text/title it is a real problem. They said they do NOTHING to the uplaoded file, but I do not agree.
Per their instruction, I scanned the prints they sent and then posted them with the original uploaded file for them to see. They will NOT be able to dispute the difference. I will be interested to see what they offer by way of an explanation.
In the meantime, I will try printing 4x6 prints at mpix.com for comparison in their cropping. I recently ordered 5x7 cards from mpix.com to use as invitations for a big party. The service was excellent and the quality was superior.

I found that Walmart also does a great job printing poster size projects. I put a 16x20 on a disk, took it to Walmart and it was back in about 2 weeks - no postage to pay. $11.95 for the poster and it was good quality. I used 300ppi. After getting it back, someone suggested that Staples also does poster size prints. I called them. They have a one-day turn around and a 16x20 is $8.95. I haven't used them yet, still working on the next poster, but will use them next time. They also have an option for applying a foam core backing to the poster, and laminating it - in the $20-$30 range. I wasn't interested in that so didn't pay much attention to the exact price.

the only negative I have heard about Walmart is that they sometimes give people grief feeling that the work is too professional to have been done by us :D and don't want to print them. That may be a store by store issue though!
