I'm not sure I know enough even to ask the question, but here goes anyway.

I was sent a little Quicktime movie of my great nephew practising walking. It is so funny that I thought I would like to make a page for his book with parts of it. I know I could just take screen shots as I advance the movie a couple of frames at a time, but I wonder if there is a way to do it by importing it into iMovie??? I sort of tried that, but the movie imported as a single thing - rather than as a string of separate frames.

I would love input - even if it's just "You've got to be kidding!". :D

Cheers,
Helen

I'll take a stab at it.
When you import the movie into imovie (I'm using imovie4). when you move your curser to the lower left on the time bar - 3 arrows will appear. Click and drag the lower right arrow to where you want the picture to be taken from. Then click and drag the lower left one and drag to being right next to the right one. Then go to File>Save Frame As...> and follow the prompts to name and where to save. Hope this makes sense. It worked for me. Good luck with it.

Thanks so much for your advice! I have just finished going through the movie and have 25 separate clips in a file to work on. I did not bother moving the lefthand arrow - just kept advancing the right one and saving what I wanted.

What a great group! Always someone comes along with help.

Cheers,
Helen

P.S. Wendy, I was also thinking that Ray might have some thoughts. :)

For iMovie HD:

Drag your Quick Time video into the clip viewer area (where you build your project).

Play the video until you reach the point where you want the still shot. You want that shot appearing in the view window.

Go to Edit>Create Still Frame.

That single frame picture will now appear on your clip shelf. You can rename it as it sits there. You can bring it into iMovie or iPhoto or use it just like any other still photo.
