I am trying to use the Eraser, but with a certain brush. Each time I go into the Brush Tool, More Options and change the direction of the brush and then flip back to the Eraser Tool, it changes the direction back to the default. How do I make it stay at the direction I want it?:(

The eraser tool doesn't work like that. You can rotate the image to do it.

Or, you could make a new brush. Make a new document, then a new layer and using the brush tool, stamp the brush that you want (in the direction you want) in black. Ctrl-click on the stamp layer, and then do edit->define brush. Now you can go back to your other document, choose the eraser, and the new brush should be at the bottom of your list.

Hi Litespeed ...

Didn't you download Grant's tools ??

If so then you can use a mask to mask out the area instead of erasing it ... AND it you use a mask then you use the ordinary paintbrush which you will be able to rotate just fine :)

Hi ...

Nowadays I rarely use the eraser ... its much more flexible to simply use a mask. That way if you don't like the effect then you can simple paint it out in white and start all over again :)

I had never tried Grant's Mask before, didn't really know what it was for. It works great though--thanks for the tip!

Hi Litespeed ...

Glad that you managed to use it OK ... once you have used the mask well I don't think you will go back to using the eraser :)

Wendy, I have never used Grant's Mask. Is it different from using an adjustment layer in a clipping group?? Or can I just mask out that way too? It sounds like a great idea.

Hi Reka ...

It works in the same way as an adjustment layer in a clipping group but its a lot easier and quicker to use. It really is worth downloading the tools if only for the mask :)
