I'm trying to learn about the Adobe Camera RAW 4.0 interface and wonder if anyone can point me to a tutorial to learn about it's functions? I have checked out the videos in the subscriber area but they seem to be an earlier version of it. One thing in particular I can't figure out is what the "recovery" slider is supposed to do.

Julie, here's a link to a description of the features in ACR 4.0. It may talk about some features that are only available in CS3, as the version for Elements is 'dumbed down' just a bit. Still very useful though.

Hi Julie,
There is no video for the new ACR - maybe they will get one going, because it is neet.
The exposure and the blacks are the same as exposure and shadows in the videos. Use the ALt key and slider to see where the stop point is in terms of adjusting them.
I usually set the recovery and shadows after the aboce two and work with recovery first. Revovery backs off the exposure setting a little and "recovers" some of the detail in areas of the picture that are close to overexposed. The shadows slider lets you adjust just the shadowa areas of your picture.
Saturation is like the prevoius ACR programs but vibrance puts a little extra "brightness" in your colors.
There was a great video on this on radiantvista.com, but it is now only available to subscribers.

There is a 2 minute one on lighting w/ Camera Raw under the CS3 section of
http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/video_workshop/
This is the same ACR4 as PSe - (PSE has a few things disabled).
What recovery does is bring back some of the "lost" highlights.

Chuck, John & Paul: Thanks to each of you for your responses. It is all a bit clearer now. :) I'll spend some more time with ACR tomorrow and see how it goes...

You can also search tutorials on Adobe Lightroom for those functions that are duplicated in ACR. This is particularly relevant for things such as the Recovery and Vibrance tools and so forth which I think were introduced with Lightroom. The tools work the same in ACR as they do in Lightroom. There are many video tutorials available from Adobes website.

Thank you Brian and Steve! Now I want to buy CS2 and Lightroom!:eek::eek:
Really, the tutorials you pointed out were helpful and I think I'm getting a handle on RAW processing.
