The missing lesson

I've just finished the last lesson. This was a great course, I have learned a lot. Since this was a work flow class I thought there may be a lesson on monitor calabration. Which monitor type to use, LCD or CRT. I would think this would be very important. Any thought on the subject?

I've never had an LCD, only a CRT.

From what I've read on Consumer Reports, a CRT is better for photo and video editing. I don't remember exactly why but that's what I do remember.

I was in the market for a new monitor. I've posted this question on a couple of photography forums and an overwhelming majority have stated CRT for photo editing.

If you go to a Best Buy or other store to buy a monitor, they will all tell you that an LCD is the way to go. Personally, I'd go with what Consumer Reports stated.

Hi there ...

... well I use an iMac which has an LCD screen and it is brilliant. I used to use a CRT screen but it was no where near the quality of this ... afraid I don't know what other LCD screens are like but the one that comes with the Mcc is wonderful :)

I loved the 21-day class too.

As far as monitors, I went from CRT to LCD because of desk space limitations. I was sceptical at first but now I love it. I got the Dell Ultrasharp 19 inch because it can tilt, swivel, pivot and adjust height.

However, since so many of us use different CRT/LCD with many different ICC profiles with Mac or Windows and printers, I think it would be near impossible to give more than just general info. Even Dell couldn't give me a real answer to calibrate their monitor - I got a better one from the Adobe User forum.

That's just my opinion for what it's worth.

Wendy, I was reading the August issue of MacWorld and it has a nice articel on how to calibrate an LCD MAC monitor usinf the internal MAC calibration programe. It also has a nice artical on getting the perfect print, and what online service has the best prints. Check it out.

Thanks for the information .. I will check it out.

I don't like the inbuilt Mac calibration program as it uses shades of gray to match to and I just couldn't get it right. Then I found this software:

and it did a great calibration job for me.
