View Full Version : Windows Question

When I download photos from my camera memory card they go into C: My Documents > My Pictures > Adobe > Digital etc > dated sub folder.

I have an external hard drive (E: drive) on my PC. I leave some images on the C: drive, others I want to move to the E: drive.

If I use Windows Drag & Drop to move to the E: drive, and subsequently use Exifer to look at those E: drive images, there isn't any EXIF data with any of the images.

If I open the images, from the C: drive into PSE Editor, and then Save to the E: drive, the EXIF data is preserved.

This isn't the end of the world, I'm just wondering why this is. Any ideas?

Rusty: I can't explain it but I can duplicate it. When you drag and drop you aren't changing the file so the EXIF data is still there. The problem seems to be with Exifer not being able to see it on an external drive. I have a couple of other ways to read EXIF data - Photo Info a free add for XP from Microsoft (right click on a file and it gives you the info), Opanda IEXIF (the free version) and Irfanview (also free) and all three work on the external drive but not Exifer. Maybe you should try another program and it won't cost you anything to get one that works :)

I use both Opanda and IrfanView - both very good, although IrfanView works better with recent Canon models that have non-standard EXIF data locations.

Well, I sure am glad you can duplicate it, Tony. I was expecting some posts, "Gee, Dummy, it works for me." :)

I'm not out anything - Exifer was a free download. You and Chuck have both given me 3 no-cost alternatives to try. I'll be off later this evening to see about that.

Thanks to you both,

Rusty

PS - the feature w/Exifer that I liked was the ability to "create" EXIF data; I was doing this with some scanned "old stuff" when I knew correct data.
