Im thinking of going from PSE4 to PSE5 but i dont know if its worth it or not. Im really waiting for PSE6 to come out. Can someone tell if they switched from 4 to 5 and the reasons they like it better. I really want curves but i was told that in 5 its not all that good. I have 33 books on PSE4 will I have to stop using them for 5. Someone help me make my decision please!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Linda,

If your only motivation for going to 5 is Curves, there is a better alternative. I first found it on earthboundlight.com, but here is the link (http://free.pages.at/easyfilter/curves.html)

It works great, is 100% free and has good installation and operating instructions. It works just like Curves in Photoshop with the exception that it is not an adjustment layer.

An Update:

When I say just like Photoshop, I mean CS2/CS3 in that you actually get to mess around with the curve line, instead of using the sliders that are in 5.

I have v.5. I am very happy with it. I have books from v. 3 and 4 too that I am still using with 5. But if curves is your only reason, I wouldn't. I do not use those much. I do use other parts a lot though.

They have the new sharpening filter, which is nice. The black and white converter (don't use it much myself). The "dumbed down curves" thing. They took away the undo and redo buttons, so if you use those alot, it will take some getting used to - you either have to do keyboard shortcuts or the edit menu.

They added some smart frames, which are cool if you are into scrapbooking. They made it easier to add layer styles and actions. I'm sure there are some other nifty features, but those are what I can think of off the top of my head.
