Looking at a National Geographic tonight, and the usual excellent Canon advert, I was prompted to share one of my more exciting big game photos with my Forum Friends.

Be careful out in the field with those, stay in your vehicle at all times. If it charges you it's ok to shoot it with your gun, just make sure you yell "It's comin' right for us!" before you blow it to pieces.

Rusty, love your photo. We have chipmunks that live in the ground right next to our front porch and my big Tom cat sits and waits for them to come out so he can torture them. I feel sorry for the little guys. He will sit for hours waiting to pounce.

You do have to be careful, they are known to charge when agitated.
I really enjoy watching them but my wife will start her annual vendetta when her planted pots are in place around the patio in a week or so. The little guys dig in the dirt of the pots (bury sunflower seeds -- that's what the one pictured was after) and kill the flowers; especially the tender-stemmed begonias.
Year before last we trapped 51; last year, with me retired and home all day, 73. No, I am NOT killing chipmunks! I use a "Hav-a-Heart" trap and relocate them a quarter mile away in a park. You don't even have to bait the trap. They are so curious, they wander inside just to see what it is. :)

Rusty, we use Hav-a-Heart traps also and release the critters in the north GA mountains about an hour away from our house. We've taken 14 racoons to the mountains but about the same amount have gotten ran over on the busy roads that use to be side roads, poor little things don't know where to go.:(

Well - trapping season started early this year. We bought some plants but it's still too cold to pot and put them outside; they are still protected in the garage.
Wouldn't you know it, the chippers are coming into the garage and digging in the dirt.

No, that's not the same chipmunk photographed twice :) The inset is Number Two (so far this year) nabbed about an hour later -- and off to the park to join his buddy.

Ground squirels can do a lot of damage to buildings. Our neighbors nearly lost their garage to them! The little critters had undermined the foundation to the point the building was listing and nearly collapsed. Neighbors tried trapping, and then finally resorted to getting an outdoor cat from the pound and he managed to keep the population down.
