OK so Byron tagged me and I accepted the challenge. And it was a challenge. Silly me I decided to look at all the new images posted to the galleries this week (through the magic of Excel) rather than just the latest main gallery images. Big mistake. I'd no idea how many there were. Close to 300 I think so now I know why the official IOW is so tough to do and even getting down to 10 was a challenge. So my choices are basically those that had instant appeal to my particular tastes and the Panos Scroll of Honour, in no particular order, goes to:

992

To see the images click on the following links:

Lots of Orton Effects - this was my favorite (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/view_img.php?id=20084)
A great spot that I've visited a few times - check out the tall ship in the gallery too (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/view_img.php?id=20037)
You can't get much closer than this (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/view_img.php?id=20001)
I really must try this technique - saw several I really liked but this makes my top 10 (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/view_img.php?id=20107)
Lots of tulip pics this week but I'm going with this up close and personal one (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/view_img.php?id=20199)
Purple isn't my favorite colour but this one took my fancy (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/view_img.php?id=20195)
Speaking of purple hats here's a cute one (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/view_img.php?id=20091)
Lots of excellent animal pictures this week but I'm going for Ivan and his Assets (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/view_img.php?id=20119)
But I had to include this one too (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/view_img.php?id=20096)
And last but not least this is really up close and personal (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/view_img.php?id=20204)

Congratulations to everyone who posted images this week. There are so many excellent ones that it's almost impossible to narrow it down even to the ten I picked.

Great picks Tony! I'm sure it's difficult to narrow the choices down to a select few, but you did a nice job! Maybe some day I'll have time to get around to posting some new images. Spending too much time planning oldest son's Graduation party right now :( .

Tony, thanks for taking on the challenge this week. There definately were alot posted this week and very well done.

Congrats to all of Tony's picks.

Robyn, the Orton Effect is here (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22443&highlight=homework) in Kimi's homework week 13 or if you have Grafi's Handy Actions Pack 2.5 (the upgraded version), it is in there too.

Tony,

Great choices! Some of my favourites amongst them. How did you use Excel to help you?

Bayla

PS. Congratulations to all the winners!

Tony, How did you use Excel to help you?

Bayla: Pretty simple really if you know Excel - the gallery images have a sequential number at the end of the link so I put the starting number (where Byron left off) into Excel and created a series of numbers and had Excel generate hyperlinks from them which linked to the gallery image with that id. Then a Y/N column for the ones I liked. So in principle all I had to do was click on the link in Excel and the gallery image opened, I give it a Y/N and then at the end of the week I just need to look at the Y's to make a final selection. The catch is that I thought maybe 100 images max would be posted during the week. Turned out to be more like 300. And I thought I'd only have 10 Y's but I had 30+. And quite a few people completely redid their galleries - unlike me who if I think of it just add a new picture once in a blue moon :) .

If I was doing it again I'd just go back to the simpler way of looking just at the main images.

Wonderful selections, Tony. It must have been difficult, I see why you only narrowed it down to 10. Great job. Congratulations to everyone on beautiful images.

Great choices Tony.
Wow, hard to imagine you had to go through so many new images. This is certainly a busy place and everybody here is just so talented.
Well done to all :)

Tony,

Great selections!:) It's very difficult to choose favorites, isn't it?

Your method of using Excel is interesting!

Congratulations to all of the artists who created the top images!:)

Great job Tony. I like the tree best myself. I find when I look at the galleries I constantly want to start a thread on all the good work that is done here. When I was working (10 years ago) Excel was my favorite programme. I used to design forms, charts and P&L statements for a national firm. I loved working with the formulas and thought it was magic. I would find myself getting excited to get started on something new. NOW, I doubt I would remember how - sad because I have Office.

Tony,

Thanks for the info on how you used Excel. I have it on the computer but don't use it a lot though my kids do. I'd never have thought of using it in the way you describe!

Bayla: You got me thinking about the first time I used a personal computer to do something useful :) . 1980 - my wife brought home an Apple II from work for the weekend and I played with VisiCalc (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VisiCalc) the first spreadsheet ever invented. 7 years later Microsoft Excel copied the idea. I've used spreadsheets for all kinds of things ever since.

Like Photoshop it's another program that got started on an Apple :)

Sherry: I thought Ivan was pretty neat :) I actually wondered how you'd got the angle - photographing giraffe heads on the level usually requires quite a tall ladder :)

Tony,
We were at the Wild Animal Park (San Diego) on a special photo caravan ride (the back of a truck). Ivan is the tallest animal at the park-his legs are over 6 ft and with his neck, he is 18 or 19 ft tall. Not that this is a great photo--but it shows my signifcant other John feeding Ivan.
