Very common at my feeders. When I looked out the window he was sharing the feeder with a Purple Finch. Alas, by the time I grabbed my camera and cranked open the window, the red guy departed. This American Goldfinch stayed around for quite a while :)

Rusty, they've 'yellowed up' a lot since leaving their winter grounds in Texas, where they're as drab as sparrows. Great shots and collage/montage!!

Chuck, I just knew I could count on you for a comment on any bird picture :)

I had no idea they drabed down in the wintertime. They are always bright when I see them up here.

The Purple Finch, unfortunately, never get as vivid as the Goldfinch.

Rusty, it's a pretty dramatic change. Here's a photo (not mine) of one in winter plumage:

Such pretty birds. They usually fly through GA in the Spring but I haven't seen any this year. Our weather has been crazy so I don't blame them if they decided to fly around us.:( Great picture Russ. I'm still keeping my eyes open for them. Seems like we are getting overwhelmed with Hawks here lately and they are chasing a lot of the smaller birds away.

So that's what those are.

I have them zipping around my birch tree from time to time.Way to jitterish to get a decent shot. Yours are great.:)

Chuck

Quite the dramatic colour change.

Great job Rusty,
I have only seen a few so far, and have not been fortunate enough to get a photo! Thanks for sharing!

Rusty,
We get them in droves here in the Willamette Valley. It's fun to watch the males change. We get the house finch too which is much like the purple finch. They are fun. You captured them well.
