When resizing a photo in the window with safe margins on will you see the photo that is left outside the margine or will it be covered up by the black around the picture?

In that Premiere Elements video, with that horizontally oriented image there should be no black border in the end product. During playback you will not see beyond the action safe/title safe areas because you will only see what can be fitted on the TV screen.

I do not know if you noticed, but I thought it was an interesting point. When you create the title which will go in Video 2 above a corresponding image(s) in Video 1, notice that the thumbnail for the title in the Media Panel is Black. Here the Black represents transparency...only the letters will show through.

So do you have to save the titles separately or can you incorporate them in your project?

But, do I have to resize the photo from it's original size ,or just adjust it with the slider in the preveiw window?

Sorry I did not see your "Saving Titles" question until now.

You can leave title just embedded in project saved as well as save title separately.

In Premiere Elements 1, you could save title via Save Button at bottom of Styles Panel. (I am not sure if it is still at this web site, but there used to be a video tutorial on titles done with Premiere Elements 1.)

In Premiere Elements 2 (the version that I have), it becomes less obvious how to do this. The Save Title in Styles is gone.
Highlight the Title in the Media Panel
Go to File Menu/Export/Title
In the dialog box that results, name and designate save location, click Save.

In Premiere Elements 3 version, I believe that it is essentially the same and you go through the File/Export/Title route. But, since I do not presently have the 3 version, you will need to check that out in your Help section if you have the 3 version.

Although coming with a lot of BUTs, the quick answer to your question about PHOTOS is to resize photos (in Photoshop Elements, for example). One of the BUTs is look what happens if you resize down in Premiere Elements using the handles in the Monitor (you could end up with black borders when you get to DVD Preview).

Experiment and explore. Other than Safe Margins, a quick confirmining guess-estimate....view your Monitor in Edit/Render/Switch to DVD Module and take a look at DVD Preview.

"Titles" is another matter altogether. This DOES lend itself to getting within the safe margins with the handles in the Monitor within Premiere Elements.

Be that as it may, I think that you will get a better overview by the following.

Have you been to the link cited below and seen its suggestions?

http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?50@@.3bb8822c

Also, are you OK with the concept of Safe Margins?
Outer boundary/Action and Inner boundary/Title.

I am assuming that you are referring to the link for the "8/19 Premiere Video Tutorial" given in this Thread. I just tried it, and it is working OK. Give it another try.

Also, check out the FAQs about viewing those videos. That link is in the same vicinity as the link for the tutorial.

From time to time problems may occur when trying to view a video here, but they seem to resolve by "trying and trying again".

Have you had any problems viewing the two free videos in the Learning Center of this web site?

Let us know the outcome.

Costa Blanca,

Too many things going on in this one thread, so I have to ask "Is your problem opening up the video tutorial link at the top of the thread?"

I just tried it and it is working. The tutorial is on Title Over Image. If you cannot open it, check out the free video tutorials for Premiere Elements in the Learning Center Section of this web site. If you are a subscriber, then you will have access to the Photoshop Elements Techniques collection of video tutorials in the Subscriber Section here for Premiere Elements as well as other things.

If you go to the web site http://www.muvipix.com and then go Products/Complimentary, you will find some free video tutorials. Look for the ones on Rolling Titles Part 1 and 2.

Back to what I believe to be your original question, keep trying to open the link. It should open.

could someone please tell me the format/codec in which i need to render my project for a broadcast tv advert? thanks...

That depends on the broadcaster/station. Some will accept DV-AVI, some require the DV Tape, others require DVPRO. You need to be asking the broadcasters as to what format they require.

It is not uncommon to render a number of different versions/formats for multiple broadcast locations.

Thank you for posting your question in the Premiere Elements Forum.

You put yourself at a disadvantage posting in an old thread (last post 2007). So, next time please post your own thread so that it is not overlooked and hidden by the old.

As has been suggested, it is a good idea to check with the people to whom you intend to give your video. The requirements can differ from group to group and country to country. When you get more information on your local requirements, then we can talk about the details of producing that in Premiere Elements or wherever most appropriate. What version of Premiere Elements do you have and are you in a NTSC or PAL region. PAL? What camcorder/camera are you using to record the video and what is the format of the video audio of the recording?

When you say "broadcast tv advert", does that mean a tv advertisement?

Please update us on your progress.

I just watched the tutorial for titles, 8/19, and it works well. I suspected as much about the inner/outer boxes, but did not know exactly what they meant. Occasionally, I purposefully will title beyond the scope of a screen to give an historical look to a film. Usually, only the main title, which is otherwise given, and obvious.
I love using PE7, over my former Roxio 10. That said, titles were easier to create quickly using Roxio.
1. Using a solid-colored backgound for a title was easy ("insert panel") in Roxio. I don't know how to do that in PE7, other than using a black panel, the default title, which I use a great deal. I'm conservative about using effects.
[so, in general a black background for a title is no problem]

Now, I know how to superimpose my black-background title over a clip. Thanks.

I am irritated by the way PE7 attaches titles to adjacent clips, when I want them freestanding. I found that putting the counter into blank space just after, say the final clip, I can get a black panel to put a title on ["The End"] without having it adjoined to the clip before it.
There are problems with always having titles joined to video clips. Changes involve more steps, and sometimes I have deleted clips and replaced them again, to correct an unforseen situation.

I'll learn the proper way, in time. I am reluctant to spend yet more money, ever more money, to get a book teaching me all the tips I really want to know.
So I am here, for now.

Please post all further questions related to Wagerfilm (Sylvester)'s Premiere Elements 7 Titles questions in the following current thread.
http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?p=473343#post473343

The 8/19 tutorial that titled the thread that we are in goes back to 2005 and the days of Premiere Elements 1. Premiere Elements has advanced to version 7. And, no doubt, version 8 with be released in the Fall of this year 2009.

To newcomers to these forums, it is to your advance to post your own thread instead on adding to an long and especially old one.

Thanks.
