View Full Version : Missing Images in Post

Over the last week or two I've noticed that I can no longer see images people are posting in threads.
I'm pretty sure it's something at my end thats blocking these but has anything changed on the forum server that could effect this.

Colin that could be for a few reasons. If it is a photo from someones gallery, they may have removed it. If it is posted on Pixentral it expires after 30 days. If it is from other sites it could be both of the afore mentioned reasons.
Hope this helps.

Kim...
Thanks for the reply but this is happening on new threads where I see people replying that they've seen the image at about the same time as I'm reading the post.
There is just no indication to me that any image is in the post but other folks are obviously seeing something - or they've been drinking too much of the hard stuff :)

So are you saying you don't even see a link to the image people are talking about. If so, look for one of the words, usually HERE being a different color and click on it. It is a link to the image like THIS (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/view_img.php?id=20082).
If you don't know how to do this, when you make a post, highlight the word you want to be a link and the go to the toolbar and click on the globe with a chain link and click it. Either copy a URL or manually type it in and click OK.

Colin: I've got the same impression - wasn't sure if it was me or because someone forgot to add the image. But it certainly doesn't happen all the time so I think something strange might be going on. This morning I was getting error messages when clicking on gallery links (something about the NAPP gallery being overloaded). Don't know if this is related.

Links I fully understand but in some posts there are no links visible or any other indication that an image is attached. Here is an example...

In this thread Post #1 refers to an image and Post #2 indicates someone else has seen it but I see nothing.

I've had that happen to me too. And I don't know why. It occurs frequently on the school computer.
Kim, mine is not the 'here' link (for example) that won't work, but an empty spot on the page. sometimes the empty spot isn't even there.
I used to think it was me being confused and couldn't find it.Or the person forgot to post the picture, until I read through the posts and realized what was what.
If I close out the program site, and go back in, a bit later, it is usually ok.

Colin: that one I do see - the first is a pixentral thumbnail link, the second is an attachment hosted on this site.

Colin-
Here's a screen shot of what I see on Post #1 of the thread that isn't showing anything for you.

Mike....
So, it looks like the Pixentral thumbnails are what's not coming through for me. Just got to figure out why now. I use Firefox so I may just try IE7 and see what that does for me....not that I'll use that permanently as it has other problems:rolleyes:

I think there may be some site issues here again. I see the photo in your link just fine. But when trying to first access this thread I got an error message not in database. I clicked back and then clicked the thread again and it was fine.

Hi Colin ...
I haven't had any problems at all seeing Pixentral links (except when Pixentral was down) ... I'm just wondering if have you changed anything on your computer ??

Wendy......
Since I'm not alone in this problem it leads me to believe that the issue is at the server end. Of course it's true that I do keep a tight check on the security of my PC but I haven't changed anything in this respect for a few days.
Actually in the course of writing this I checked on my laptop and that seems to work ok - curious!!

Well I've fixed my problem.
My Firewall (Zonealarm) thinks the thumbnails are ADs and blocks them. I've now set it to just show the word AD which I can then choose to click on or not.

Colin-
For what it's worth, I use Firefox at home and IE7 at school (work), and I can see the thumbnail on both browsers, in both places.

Thanks Kim.....
Thing is the setting in the Firewall has been the same for months. I wonder if the server has changed the way the thumbnails are represented...

I give up figuring out this servers and such. My provider just sent me a bunch of updates and the firewall kept wanting to block them while I was installing them. Go figure.

Colin do you have a firewall? I had same problem a while back and it was the firewall causing it.

Thanks Fernan....
As I indicated in Post #15 this was blocking the thumbnails as it now thinks they are Ads, although the settings of the Firewall have not changed for months.

Hi Colin ...
So glad that you have it sorted ... its awful when you can't see the images and everyone else is commenting on them :)

Glad you got it sorted. Just curious .. could the firewall have updated itself and even though the settings haven't changed what it thinks are ads has?

I was beginning to think it was a conspiroucy against me:)
Gary....
Yes that's possible since I did renew my subscription for the Firewall a few weeks back.
