A new family member is sure to help lift my spirits during the next six months.

This is Juni. This is also last night at the Dachshund Rescue where we picked her up. She is five years old and was just spayed yesterday. Her owner is moving out of the country. She has not had the best of care but is healthy. Because she is over ten pounds at the moment I cannot lift her up because of my surgery. We are getting along fine though. I had her out for a couple of walks today. She is used to being with another dog all day so this whole change is going to be difficult for her. But she has wagged her tail at both Ron and I and follows us around everywhere. This is supposed to be a trial but as the Rescue lady said - it looks like a match. The rescue lady is a nurse and knew about my cancer and upcoming Chemo. She thinks this might be the best thing for me - and she might be right. Juni is lying beside me in her basket sleeping soundly at the moment. I will be having a CT scan on Thursday, seeing the Oncologist again on Friday and probably starting chemo in a couple of weeks. I know it will not be a pleasant six or seven months but I am going to make the best of it and having Juni to care for should help a lot.
Expect photos shortly!!!!

Oh Shari, Juni is just beautiful. She will help you get through the coming months. As someone who went through chemo and radiation this past October thru February, I know what you will be going through. Just remember that it will end and you will feel yourself again. Misty was such a comfort to me, and I know Juni will be to you also. Someone today asked me how I was feeling and I told them that I feel great. There were times when I thought I'd never feel good again. Try to keep up your spirits and know that you'll be enjoying life again.

Juni is beautiful, Shari,
You are going to love hanging out with her. It's great that you were lucky enough to be paired with a mature dog. She'll be perfectly happy just sitting and chilling if that's what you want, or acting crazy and jumping around when you are in that mood :D

Hi Shari,
You and Juni look like you've been together for a very long time. I know she'll bring you lots of comfort in the coming months.
I'm having big trouble with pixentral tonight, it simply will not let me post the thumbnail, I had to cut and paste this, but wanted to send this to you, hope you can view it.

She looks beautiful - and so do you! You look very happy. One thing is for sure - when you think you can't possibly feel good again, a quick lick of a tongue from an adoring dog will prove you can feel better instantly. They have an amazing healing power. Best of luck to you and Juni.

Shari,
Adopting Juni was one of the best things you could have done, for both her and you. Dogs unquestionably sense when their human is having a medical problem and do everything in their power to make you feel better.
And it was great to see your picture so I can attach a face to all this verbiage. Enjoy Juni; take care of her and she will repay you a hundredfold.

Shari, so glad to hear of your "find". The benefits of pets are just beginning to be recognized by the scientific world...something we pet owners have always known!
Let her love you to bits!

Shari, I only popped on here for a brief while and saw your post - I am so glad I did. It is a lovely photo and she sounds great. As everyone has already said, she is going to be such a comfort.
Our new little girl is/has settled in wonderfully and is an absolute delight. At 9 weeks old, she is probably about the same height as Juni, but not as long:D
Enjoy and look forward to hearing about her progress

Hi Shari
She's gorgeous and you'll share much fun, comfort, joy and laughter in the future. As one of my dog loving friends says, there's no warmth like that of a cold nose.
Sending lots of positive thoughts your way.

She's a keeper, Shari. There are mornings that I don't want to even think about getting up then one of my pups call to me and the day begins. They are there to help keep you going! Enjoy your new doggie and here's hoping you come thru the chemo with flying colors.
