I have been working on 50th Anniversary pictures of my parents (will probably ask for advice with this too) and now this is my new project for today....
I quickly scanned this last night of our new Grand-daughter. How can I improve the ultrasound? It seemed easier to see on the Tec's screen yesterday. I'll be getting more of the copies today and would love some advice.
Thanks
Michelle

Just a quick guess.
Duplicate the layer
Change blend mode on new layer to screen.
it should bring out more details in the photo.
Repeat duplicating the new layer as needed.
I'm not sure this will will help, but it has helped me with some very dark photos.
Note: Sorry for the bad advice Michelle, I just tried it and it didn't work.
Maybe someone who really knows what they're talking about will be along soon to help you out with this.

Looks to me as though it was scanned black and white and not color or grayscale - so it is just black and white with nothing in between. I don't think you'd be able to do anything with it unless it gets rescanned.

That was my thought, too.

Hi,
I've recently scanned my own ultrasound images for my baby's scrapbook. I scanned the images at 600 dpi, color; then in PSE5, I used levels to darken the background a bit and to increase the contrast. In addition to smooth out the speckles and any miscellaneous parts in the image, I did a color burn. After all enhancements, I filtered the images through Noiseware. Hope this helps... good luck.
Here is my before...

And here is my after..

This layout was made by someone on the scrapbookers forum; unfortunately I forgot the author's name...but the poem was just beautiful....
Another layout with a bunch of ultrasound pictures...

and Another; where I totally color burned all surroundings of the ultrasound leaving only the baby..

Denise, those look great, and you DO look so happy!
Did you notice you have a typo in the poem on the brown layout? "Miracle" is missing an "a". Hope you can still fix it!
Keep up the good work!

I agree with you Tony. I tried and when I did a levels on it, there was nothing there to work with!

Thank you. and thanks for catching the the typo. Fortunately I've learned to save creations in psd format, so the change was easy. I used HansHand in italic for my font, its a free one. Use a google search and I think you can find it under DaFont.com..

And the credit for the poem layout goes to Nanci25 (http://www.scrappersguide.com/forums/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=6984&si=ultrasound&perpage=36&limit=all) from Scrapper's Guide. I'm learning digital scrapbooking and enjoying it...:) Just wish I had a 48 hour day.

You are welcome Michelle! It is best to get the ultrasound pics scanned and optimized onto archival paper/or digital because the paper quality that they use for medical purposes will not last long. So far my original us pics from my 15 year old son are OK, but are slowly becoming lighter..therefore, I've got quite a project ahead of me preserving memories...
Best wishes on the upcoming arrival of your grandbaby!!!
PS. We are all here to help with the optimization if you run into road blocks.

I don't think I have that font ...yet;)
Neither did I....until 20 minutes ago:D
Lovely LO, lovely poem....When my first kids were in utero ultrasound scans weren't routinely offered in the UK....and after a horrendous scan experience with baby #3 I opted not to have any more unless absolutely necessary, so don't have any scan pictures. But my kids have pictures of my grandchildren...never thought to incorporate them in a LO, what a cute idea!

No, please...thank Nanci25 from Scrapper's Guide....it was her idea first...and I'm not sure if she wrote the poem or got it from somewhere. All in all, it is a beautiful poem. Sometimes our words are just too hard to come by...
