I am fairly new to PE. I can not burn a dvd from PE. I continue to get the error unable to initialize dvd burning engine. I have tried removing other software that might be causing compatibility issues, such as inCD ,but still get the same error. I also do not see the option to burn to folder anywhere within the program.

Hi :)

Are you trying to burn from Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements?

I just did a tutorial on burning a DVD in PRE last week its the top post on this thread, there is a screen shot of the burn dialogue box that has the option to burn to a folder.

Let me know if you have further questions.

I am burning From Premiere. I did watch your tutorial, and my problem is when you hit the burn dvd button. I do not get the dialogue box that opens once you do this. What I get is an error message that says "could not initialize dvd burning engine. Thanks for your help.

Ah ok..

Well, lets start with the obvious...Are you able to burn a DVD outside of PRE?

Using the software that came with your burner see if you can just grab a file and burn it to the disc. IF you are able to do that then, I would like for you to try this...

Open your project and copy all of your media files (media window CTRL +A, CTRL +C)

then make a new project and paste it all to the new project, save.
Then go back to the old project and do the same with the timeline.
Go back to new and paste it all to the new project.
Then rerender the project and then try to burn again.

Let me know :)

I have nero that came with my burner and I am able to burn from there. I have tried to burn 3 different videos that I have created from premier with the same error. I have even tried to burn the birthday tutorial that I completed and still get the same. I am trying what you suggested, but when I go to paste the items in the new project, I have no option to paste. I have tried the copy command two ways. Thanks again.

Ok..

Open a new project import the media that you used in the previous project
THEN go to the old project click in the timeline and then do Ctrl + A, then Ctrl + C to copy. go back to the new project and click in the timeline and hit Ctrl + V to paste the project into the timeline.

I just tried it out to make sure it was working like I told you and found that for some reason I had to actually import the media instead of copying in like I have in the past. Not sure when or why that changed :?

But you can paste the project into the timeline once you reimport the media.

Let me know how it goes :)

ok, I did what you suggested but the same thing happened. I was told in another forum to uninstall the software and reload which I did, but even that gave me the same result.

What are your system specs?

How much Memory do you have?

Are you using a Dell? and if so is your antivirus software on or off?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm trying to narrow down the problem :)

I understand....

P4 3gig Hyperthread
1 gig ram
360 gig hard drive
Pacific Digital 16x16x40 dvd-+R-+RW dvd burn
windows XP Pro
Norton Internet security 2004

This is not a Dell, I built the computer myself. I am more of the hardware type. I play with tons of software, but am much better at building the computers.

I have been reading many of the other items in this forum, and see you have made many more of the tutorials. Is there a page I can go to view them? Thank you again for your time

I forgot. I have tried burning with my antivirus on and off with same result. I have also ran Msconfig and shut down everthing running that I don't need and still the same. I also uninstalled other software that I thought could be causing the issue

Ulead movie maker
InCD
Avid Free DV...

yikes! ok you've tried everything I can think of.

I'm going to search the Adobe forums and see if they have anything on that particular error.

As for the other tutorials, those are for Elements 3.0 not Premiere Elements.

They are located in the subscriber area of the site, you can find information about subscribing on the home page.

Oooo I just thought of something...

When you get that area is there a box of anykind other than the error message?

I recall a similar error with someone who had a cd and dvd drive but they were in seperate bays and the program was only seeing the cd burner, I think it was the same error message.

If there is a box there will be an option to select your drive..

I only get the one error box...

the error title is...DVD burning error

within the box is ...Could not initialize DVD burning engine

I do have two cd roms...a DVD player and the DVD burner.

I am going to try disconnecting the player totally and see if that helps. If you find anything let me know I have been searching forums on other sites with no answers. Thanks again

Hancl....It is so hot here in Texas but not hot enough to burn.......DVD's!

Ok I found out that that error means it's not detecting your burner..

I *think* if you disconnect the player then it will find it and after it finds it once it will stay found...

Good Luck and let me know!

All is well at this time.... I disconnected the DVD player PE found the burner and is now working. I have since reconnected the player and it is still defaulting to the burner. Thank you for your help. I can tell this forum will be a great asset to me.

I recently had to re-install Premiere. Now, I am ready to burn a DVD and am getting the message described in this post. However, I do not know how to disconnect my cd player. I do have one CD player, and a DVD burner. Sounds like I need to tell premiere which drive to look at, by this post. But, I am not sure how to 'disconnect' my CD player....
Thanks!!

Tina,

This is just an answer to your immediate question about a way to disable a DVD/CD drive. It is not necessarily the solution to your problem. If approach does not work, I would suggest that you start a new Thread detailing your set up/software and problem.

The following works for me with Windows XP....
Start
Control Panel
System
System Properties/Hardware/Device Manager
Click on Device Manager tab
Then find listing for DVD/CD ROM drives
Press on the + sign to expand the DVD/CD ROM drives category to see all
Select (highlight) the drive you want to disable
Then, right click that selected drive, and click on disable.

Please confirm that the dialog box in the burn software is or is not showing the burner choice that you want? ALso, are these burners internal or external? If internal, when you installed the burner how did you set the master/slave jumpers in relation to the burner that you already had?

Please excuse if I have repeated some things from previous postings in this Thread. I just had time to read your immediate question and not this entire Thread from start to finish.

Hey!
I just followed your instructions and then restarted the software. It now recognizes the burner drive! I finally do get the DVD screen! The DVD is burning right now! Thanks for your details. It can get quite overwhelming sometimes ~ especially when faced with a deadline! I have the new version of premiere. But, I could not make it work. It wouldn't render my keyframes. The error message was to the effect of out of memory. So, in face of not having time for more intense research, I uninstalled it, and went back to premier 1.0 to get out this movie. I am going along again now. But, still want to use the newest version. So, in essense, thank you so much for your details! You guys have saved me more than once! I will probly be back for help with the new premiere!
:) :)
My DVD drive is internal. And at previous use of 1.0, I didn't have this issue. Which caused me quite a surprise at 10 last night when I clicked on burn DVD! I almost didn't sleep, but I know that help out here!

I have actually been surfing muvipix.com...very nice.

I will finish the project I am on. And then load up the newest version of PE again.

I will be back!

Here it is August, 2008 and I have the same problem. Totally frustrated, I made sure that my project was saved. Then, I Exited Premier Elements 3.0. Then, I re-booted my computer, opened Premier Elements, opened the project and told it (demanded?) that it start burning my DVD. And, it DID !!!!

Talk about relieved ! Tonight was my deadline and no more time is left.

This is a great site with a lot of serious help. I am thankful for all the help and good ideas that are offered here.

Lowell,

That was great news, but next time try to give yourself more breathing room.

Thanks for the feedback. I was so impressed by you and Shiela (from another thread) working your ways to success.

As always, continued success.
