HI PS Users:
I'm one of the new kids on the block...LOVE LOVE this site and forum....and adore PS4 - although at times it makes me want to tear my hair out!
I am a calligrapher and have scanned in my last name done in a Gothic hand of calligraphy. How do I "clean up" my letters? I have tried for the past hour to figure it out - and know it's something VERY easy - but for the life of me can't do it.....
I appreciate your assistance and wisdom of the days, months & years with PS!!
All my best,
Rebecca

I'm a little bit confused because your title says "filling in with color" but you say you want to "clean up your letters". If you want to clean up little stray marks you can use the eraser tool (e) use a hard brush and click and release often. If you're trying to do something else please post back.

Dear Patty:
Thanks so much for your assistance. The Gothic hand of calligraphy I am using as diamond shapes on the feet - some of the diamonds shapes came out not quite as black when I scanned it. How do I "paint in" or "fill in" those areas which need sharpened up?
Again, appreciate your help - LOVE this program - but it can be quite difficult for beginners who have had no training!!
All my best,
Rebecca:o

You could try doing a levels adjustment layer to darken it up.
It might be easier to post what you are working on, then I think you could get more help.

A couple of approaches I would try first come to mind.
First approach:
Make sure forground color is black. Using the brush tool, select a small solid black brush.
Zoom in on the spot to be darkened and paint.
Second approach:
Make sure forground color is black.
Select the calligraphy only.
Once your calligraphy is within the "moving ants" press Alt-backspace and your writing should get colored black uniformly.
Someone will probably come along and offer some other approaches. don't worry you'll get the help you have asked for.
Good Luck

Rebecca-
All these methods should work for you. To select the Calligraphy Ctrl click on the thumbnail. This would be the fastest way to make a selection (marching ants). Then use the brush.
Good luck!

Hi Rebecca,
Try posting it here

I think you should remove your email address as there are bots that comb through to harvest them.
If you can't get it posted send me a private message(just click my name)

The other thing you might want to try is Filter>Adjustments>Threshold. That turns everything into either white or black depending on where you put the slider - so as long as the background is basically white and the text is gray to black you should be able to find a slider setting where the type is all black and the background is all white. Of course, once you've done that you can change the colours of the background and type but they should then be clean color fills. And if you do the threshhold on a new layer it makes selecting the text very easy and you can use that selection on the original layer.
