Hi All

I'm sorry to be such a pest, but I'm still having trouble with duplicates on my computer. I've downloaded "photosort" and it has identified up to seven separate duplicates for nearly all my photos (over 18,000) so I've started to delete them, some of the deletions are "thumbs", as you can tell it's a mammoth operation, now when I try to open a photo in Organizer it searches then asks me if I want to re-connect the photo it's searching for. It seems to me that that is because I've deleted the thumb for that particular photo, do you think that now I've started this task I should carry on deleting all the extras, including the thumbs, then un-install Elements, then re-install then Elements will find all my photos ?

Hi Rob

Don't worry, you aren't being a pest.:)

You have just discovered the weakness of the Organizer.

If you want to delete/rename/move or do anything else with your photos, you must use the Organizer to do this, or else you lose the connection.
All the Organizer is, is an Access database that contains a small thumbnail of your photo and the location of your real one. ANY photo movement outside of it and it gets messed up.

I don't use it that much so you may want to wait for one of the people who do.
My suggestion would be to delete the catalogue, do your deletions and start over. It seems as though you have a massive restructuring to do.
You may feel otherwise if you have invested countless hours tagging and sorting and such.:)

Thank you for your reply Gary, I think that's what I'll have to do, It's a good job I've been too busy (lazy) to tag too many of my photos :)

Rob

Don't be too hasty. As I mentioned, there are quite a few organizer experts around and they may have a better idea.:)
