Hi,
had a drive round some of the Forest this afternoon. Took some photos of the new foals. Decided to make a montage and here it is.

Kev, it's a great montage! Of course the photos are wonderful, and the wooden fence-like background is so very appropriate. Excellent!!

Kev--Another excellent montage. When you say New Forest, is this really a forest and do these horses run wild or it is some kind of farm/ranch???

Gary,
pleased you like it.
Yes, it's a real forest. It was a new forest when William the Conqueror declared it his Royal hunting forest in the Eleventh century.
The ponies belong to people called Commoners who have the right to let their ponies out on forest land, another ancient right. They have to pay a tax for each pony, collected by the Verderers and Agisters.

I'm a big horse freak, so I loved the foals! Great job!

I love it. I was fascinated by the foals yesterday when I was in the New Forest - going to Exbury Gardens. Sadly, the coach was moving, so I couln't take any pics, but made up by taking 111 at Exbury! What a fantastic area to live. I think we turned off at 'your' roundabout, so I was thinking of you. You are obviously very close to Hythe, Southampton.

Rusty,
thanks. You have to be careful that you don't get to close or between the mare and her foal, if the stallion is around just move on and look for another foal.

Ann,
pleased you like it.
Glad you enjoyed your visit to Exbury. If you turned off on the roundabout at Dibden Purlieu you were about three minutes from our house. We are lucky, we have the Forest, Exbury, Beaulieu and scores of places that the normal tourist never sees.

Kev, what great subjects and great photos. And a perfect way to display them that blends the colors and mood... I love horses, most of my life I was quite involved in equestrian sports (of the English variety) but now not so much due to limitations of the aging ol' back and also $$. Have seen a few being born. I need to get going and do some montages also, I may use some of yours as examples/inspiration ! - S.
