Jigsaw puzzle tutorial & magic wand tool

In this tutorial, the author uses the magic wand tool to select the individual pieces. In doing so, he selects almost the entire piece. When I try it (using PSE 4 for the Mac) I get a real tiny circle and not much else. I used the lasso tool to laboriously select the pieces I wanted. How do I get the magic wand to tool to respond the way it did for the author? Thanks!

Make sure that you are on the grey puzzle layer when making your selection - if you are on the bottom coloured layer then you'll only succeed in selecting little circles. (Been there, done that, got the badge & the T-shirt:o) For some reason I kept jumping layers.

Hopefully this will solve the problem for you.

You just have to play around with the "tolerance" setting in the option bar.

Higher number selects more.. too high and you will select too much.:)
