for some reason when ever I plug a camera into my computer photoshop opens; how do I stop this?

John, set the preferences for which ever program you want to open your photos with as your default photo viewer.

If it is PSE5 you are talking about, there should be a little camera symbol in your Quick launch toolbar. Click on that and click "Disable". Then the photo downloader won't start every time you plug in a camera or USB stick.

If you want to use the downloader but not open the Organizer when you download photos from the camera, forget the step I mentioned above. Then there is a box in the downloader dialog box that you need to uncheck; the first one under "Advanced Options", "Open Organizer when finished".
