Changing the font surface texture etc

I'm sure there's a fast easy answer for this but I can't find it:( All I want to do is use different colored papers i have on a font. In other words, I don't want the font to be black, I want it to look like the pretty papers I have instead:) thanks!

Kim,

Create your text layer with black text, as normal.

Place the pattern layer above your text layer.

Group the pattern layer with the text layer. (CTRL-G in Windows)

This clips the pattern so that it appears only where there is text on the layer below.
