I just bought PSE and need a basic tutorial or instruction on organizing photos. All the educational stuff on the site seems to be about editing rather than organizing. Are there some tutorials or articles about organizing that I've missed? Any other ideas?

Hi Mark,
.... and welcome to the forum :)
Here a link that may help you:

... and I seem to remember another book being mentioned but I can't seem to find a link to it .... hopefully someone else may be able to find it.
I have also tried a search for Organiser tutorials but haven't come up with anything :( .. so it may be easier if you just ask specific questions and then someone may be able to help you.

Mark, here's a link to a book I bought from Amazon that told me pretty much everything I needed to know about the organizer.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0321246969/qid=1124302675/sr=1-7/ref=sr_1_7/103-3824907-0990213?v=glance&s=books
This book is one of the very few I seen receive 5 stars from the reviews of users. It get's a five from me also

There is a short video on the organiser in the subscriber area and also one on the file browser.

Thanks so much for the replies! I just ordered the book.
I was amazed that there seem to be so many books dealing with this product. It's actually a bit daunting. I definitely want a strong organizer and a good editor, and I'm pretty good with software, but I'm not going to be a professional photographer and I'm starting to wonder whether I should use a simpler program, like Picassa (sp?).
What do you think?

Mark,
Elements should suit you just fine ... you can use it at all sorts of different levels and it leaves you plenty to grow into as you learn how to use it.
There are lots of good tutorials on the site, some great online classes and people on the forum will always help you too ... Just ask and one of us will always help :)

Thank you, Wendy. You sound as if you are very knowledgable about the program.

hi Mark,
I have been using Elements for about two and a half years now and just love the flexibility of it. You can start off simple by using the Quick Fixes and then as you learn more you can explore all the other features. Other programs you tend to grow out of but Elements has a whole world of extras.
Any help you need ... just ask :)

I chose PSE because I figure that if I'm going to start taking and storing digital photographs, I need a program that is going to be around a long, long time (as I hope to be). It wouldn't do much good if you stored all your photos in a program that was discontinued. I gather PSE is the gold standard today, so hopefully it will be around a good long while.

In case any other newcomers look at this thread, I want to say that I purchased the book recommended above, Organizing Your Photos with Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0, and it is absolutely fantastic! Extremely well-written, a wealth of information, and takes you through the organizing process from A to Z in simple steps. It also makes me very glad that I purchased the program in the first place.
