Now, I have installed photoshop on my XP and get tired just looking at it..all of the "preset stuff?"..I guess it would be stupid to ask, "Is photoshop really alot better than photodeluxe?"

I used to use Photo Deluxe before Adobe came out with Photoshop Elements and I really liked it. The full Photoshop program can be intimidating. Photoshop Elements is so much more user friendly and will do about anything you'd probably need to do if you were happy with Photo Deluxe.
Going from Photo Deluxe to Photoshop is about like going from a bicycle to a Cadillac.

Surely, I am exposing my stupidity now...I have photoshop c52 #9...Did you mean elements literally as in the name of a program or just use some elements of photoshop?I decided to just use it like with photodeluxe..nothing much happens-can't find smart select to change background..Instead I see things like bridge..extractor..do you want to edit in illustrator? or something like that, path. It makes me think that I have to set up the whole system before i can use it. Thanks for the information-I am going to look for some basic instructions.

Hi ..
... and welcome to the forum :)
Photoshop Elements is the smaller version of Photoshop CS2 and most people here use Elements.
Here is a link to some Video on using Photoshop ... hope that they help :)
