I will try to post the original, washed out photo that had no colors showing in the roof, ceiling, or columns. For some ridiculous reason, I can't find where it ended up on my hard drive??? Anyway, this is the result. I did a levels/layer mask and darkened the whole thing which brought the colors out. I painted with white to bring out the colors that were washed out by the sun. Then I used the dodge tool to lighten up the colors that were in the shade. I still need to do some tweaking on the details but I was so excited with the results that I couldn't wait to share! I just hope I can figure out where oh where I put the original,sun-blown picture.

Thanks everyone. I knew that a layer mask could do great things but I was so amazed with the results of this attempt!! I could not believe that the colors we saw in person were actually there in the sun-blown photo. Now we have a wonderful record of an incredibly beautiful and colorful building!!
I guess I hoped that by sharing this, other people would try the levels/mask /paint with white technique to see what treasure is hiding in a sun-blown photo!!

Wow, Andie, what a difference you made in the photo! The building is so colorful, I can see why you wanted to bring out the colors. Fantastic work, I need to remember this for future reference!:)
