View Full Version : Create Text Paths in Elements - For a Price

I know there have been inquiries in the forum at times about doing circular text and text flowing around shapes. I just came across this plugin, supposed to work in Elements. Unfortunately it's kind of expensive, but thought someone here might need something like this sometime.

Yeah - as much as a brand new copy of Elements. Might as well buy CS 2 or 3!
My goodness.

Wow! That is an expensive way to do it. Be a lot cheaper to download a CS2/CS3 trial and do a bunch of different shaped texts there. Once done you can open, edit the text, resize, copy and paste with Elements - you just can't create new ones.

I'm not that familiar with Photoshop, but this was posted on a Photoshop forum in response to a question from a Photoshop user and it sounded like this software does things Photoshop couldn't do. Of course, it may have been posted before the newer CS versions came. Oh well.

Diana: I think your right - the latest version was released in 2003, 6 months before CS came out which added the text on a path feature and it hasn't been updated since. You'd kind of think that they would have dropped the price by now and maybe attract some Elements customers

Yeah, I was kinda excited when I saw it and that it would run under Elements.....but then I saw the price:eek: !

If you just want text in a circle here's a completely free psd text layer (I created it in Photoshop). I find it interesting that although you can't make it in Elements you can do a lot of manipulation with it and it stays as a circular text layer. So Elements (at least PSE5) understands all about text on paths.

Hi Diana, a favorite of mine for text on a path is Terry Maruca over at Scrapbook-Elements. Here's one I did using one of her paths:

I really like her Terry's Doodleflys & Text on a Path Trails. Here's a link to some pages of the store with a lot of her paths, for purchase.
http://store.scrapbook-elements.com/index.php?main_page=index&manufacturers_id=48&sort=6&page=23
They're easy enough to use & worth it to me because I'm still using PSE.
I hope this is useful to you.

Hmm - takes a couple of minutes to do, sell for $1 each, that could be a get rich quick scheme :D

Gary: You're right warping that circle of text and increasing the font size and a layer style has some amazing effects - this should have been a fish warp  . And believe it or not you can still edit the text in it :D

Ya cool.. as long as you don't simplify you can keep editing the text.:D
Something else I did, was to type too much text for the circle... it remembers what it doesn't show, so you just have to resize the font to get all the text in.

I say go for it! You could release a whole CD of text paths. There are a lot of people who want them.:)
I've used the ones Betty pointed out and they work great too.

This circular text is exactly what I need today! When I tried to save Tony's original file, I get a little black square that just says something about the image was not saved with a composite image. Tony, if you see this, will you post it again? You'll be my new best friend. ;)

Rebecca: I tried but the file size was too big to post here if I include the composite. If you can open it you should be able to resave it with compatability turned on - or maybe you have an older version of Elements/Photoshop that needs the composite. If you send me a Private Message with an email address I'll email it to you.

Tony, I have created a Split program that can split a file into two pieces:
http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showthread.php?p=232814#post232814
If a file is, lets say an EXE file is 800 KB, then it would make
one piece less 100 KB, and another in about 700 KB.
I could modify my program with a prompt: How many pieces?, or/and What size do you want for each jig saw? I would also be able to modify it with a prompt, something like this: Press button OK to auto put each split in each ZIP file, press OK: ...
?

Rebecca: It's in the mail - I suspect the problem might be the font - if you change it to one you have I suspect you could then save it but that's just a guess on why it should have been a problem. The one in the mail has the composite.

I am reviving this thread since I have been looking for ways to get text on paths in Elements. While looking, I found Robert Lynch's tools (http://www.hiddenelements.com/elements5_tools.html), plus the new PathsElements plugin here (http://www.humansoftware.com/pages1200/PathsElem/HSpathsfram11.html).
When I clicked on each download button, it sent me to the same place for the same file! In any case, this plugin download is only around $25 (EUR 19.42 for me), but can I really put text on the paths it lets me create? It talks about paths and vector power, but no claim to text on a path. Is it worth trying??

Reka: I seem to remember seeing a post on this either here or over on the Richard Lynch forum. As I recall it will create vector paths but won't let you put text along them. Might be wrong though.

Thought someone might be interested in this. There are several different shapes.
http://digishoptalk.com/boards/showthread.php?t=65794
I found a free download here that works for me. Several shapes to choose from.
this was on the fourm before and so I thought I would bring it up again as long as the question of typing on a path. it works great and it is free.

Thank you, too, Tony and Tina. I had the PSD files, but I am looking for the ability to make text follow a path around more complicated forms. So I guess I either upgrade to CS3 or use Inkscape each time.
