What's the best way 2 blend 2 images into each other?

Hi there,

Well I suppose that the very best way to do that is using a mask ... now Elements doesn't have a mask tool BUT there is an addon in the Suscribers area that gives Elements the ability to use masks.

Grant's tools also have a mask:

Another way I have found that works pretty well, depending on the project, is to use a selection tool with a very big feathering to cut off the edge of one picture that you want to kind of fade onto another one.

..and yet another way is to create a gradient adjustment layer between the two image...solid to transparent gradient. With the top image selected go to toolbar>Layer>select ' Group with Previous'..or Ctrl + G. What is nice about using the adjustment layer is that you can further adjust this layer by double clicking on it...you can change the angle or move the sliders to a desired a effect etc...

Using Elements there are usually three different ways of doing things ... guess we have now made up the three :)

Hi,

I guess its been the number one request since Elements first came out ... but somehow I can't see Adobe putting it in there for us. Good thing is that they haven't blocked us accessing it via addons :)

Where is the add on in the subscriber area? I've been hunting for it and I've had no luck...

You'll find them in Vol 2 #3 under the EXTRAS button; both the video and download links are contained in the text.

I found them, already had them... Now my problem is dealing with information overload. I don't know what I already knew! Genius is hell!

Brice,

Oh I do know that feeling ... just before we went on holiday I went over to Adobe Exchange and downloaded some brushes but when I came to install them ... I already had them

Hi there... I downloaded & installed Grants tools & alignment tools from this website :
http://www.cavesofice.org/~grant/Challenge/

I followed his directions about where to unzip the files to, etc. when I go into Elements, they are listed under effects, but nothing shows up. what did I do wrong? :(

Hi ...

Did you folow the instructions on rebuilding the cache AND if you did maybe you didn't wait long enough ... it does take a while to rebuild.

If you can see them listed under effects what happens when you click on them?

Hi Wendy.. under the effects list, it says "Grants Tools" & Grants Alignment Tools. When I click on either one, the space where they should be shown is blank & I get the No symbol. I guess that means that they are not there.
I did follow the directions about deleting the files in the Caches.

Hi ..

Close down Elements, try deleting the cache again and see if that works.

If not then let us know if you are using Windows/Mac, which Operating System and which version of Elements. I know that using a Mac with PSE2 needs an extra step ...

Let's go through the steps again.....download file from site....double click to open zipped file...there should be one folder inside...don't open it...copy folder to C:Program files>Adobe>Elements3>Previews>Effects, paste folder into here. Then go to Preview>Cache, there is a filter cache folder and in the folder are 3 files. Delete these files. There is also an effects cache...delete the 3 files within this folder as well. Restart Elements. Wait for the effects drop down list to repopulate.

If that doesn't work try deleting your preferences...hold down ALT+Shift+Ctrl a half a split second after launching editor. A message should appear asking if you'd like to delete your settings...say 'yes'.
