View Full Version : Problems with training videos

Is anyone else trying to view their online training classes today? I'm trying to review Corey's Creative lessons because my class expires in two days and I want to go back and take some more notes. When I click to play the video nothing happens. I tried to do this over the weekend and got so frustrated I had to give up. The videos would play about 1 out of ten tries. I knew the rest of the site was having issues AGAIN so I gave up and assumed that because it was the weekend and a holiday there was nobody addressing the problems. Well, it's the middle of the week and things are still not working. This is not the only time since I started the course that I couldn't access my lessons, so I don't feel like I've been given the amount of time that I paid for.

I'm probably not alone in my frustration. I've been very patient and haven't complained about the problems with this site during the past couple of months, thinking that it would get straightened out. The Creative class was my 4th class...if you add that to the price of the subscription that's a pretty hefty financial investment, and today I don't think I'll be renewing my subscription or enrolling in any more classes. I love reading the forum and I know I can't find a better group of talented and helpful people anywhere. But I've paid for access to the training as well, and I feel that it is taking way to long for the management to solve the problems.

I just read on another thread that Matt is planning the next online course to be about using a tablet, then something about digital photography, THEN something about selections. I'm confused about why we were asked to vote for what we'd like to see next, with the results showing the strongest interest was for a class in making selections, and then it gets pushed back for probably months. My opinion is that there should be NO new classes until the site can reliably and consistently support the existing services that we pay for. I love this site, and I have learned so much here, both from the paid features and the forum, but I'm losing patience.

:( :(

Hi,

I am unaware of any problems with the online training sites at the moment.

I will check with the webguys as soon as they get back from lunch to verify that they are working and let you know.

Can you give me some information in regards to the error you are receiving?
Are you getting an error message with a number or is it just not starting? More details are always better in trying to figure out a web issue:)

Thanks and sorry for the problem you are having:(

Hi Tami,

Thanks for jumping in to try to help!

When I try to watch the Creative Techniques vids I don't get any error messages. Sometimes the window opens and indicates the video is streaming, but there's nothing there. Sometimes the window doesn't even open. Sometimes the video starts normally and then just quits. And sometimes everything works just as it should. It's very inconsistent.

When I try to watch the subscriber videos I get a message that a plugin error occurred on the page and that the plugin did not initialize. I've been ignoring this problem because if I click on the video a second time it starts and plays as it should.

Hi Janet ...

It sounds as though you have a problem on your computer ... when you get the error does it tell you what plugin failed to initialize ... ??

Hi Wendy,

When I've watched a subscriber video, and then shut off the computer there is a message that pops up about memory that can't be read and it does list some numbers. I have to run out for a bit, but when I get back I'll post what it says.

I don't think the training video problems are the same...the sub. videos have been giving the plugin message for quite a while. The training videos just started acting up over the weekend.

Hi Wendy,

It seems my problem with the subscriber videos has to do with IE7. (I'm working on my laptop-Windows XP) After I get the plugin messages and watch the video, when I close IE7 I get this iexplore.exe application error.
"The instruction at "0x09609bc7" referenced memory at "0x00000008". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program." But this does not happen when I try to watch the training videos. Any advice will be much appreciated!

I just checked with the webteam and they were unable to find a problem with checking random movies...Can you tell me a day that you are having a problem with so I can have them check that specific movie?

Tami,

I was having trouble Sunday afternoon with several of the Creative Techniques videos. I would have to try many times to finally get them to play. At the same time others were experiencing difficulties with the galleries...kept getting the "Sorry, but the NAPP gallery is having problems..." message.

This morning I wanted to watch Day 18 of Creative Techniques and never did get it to work. Day 19 worked. (I was using Windows XP.)

Hi Janet ...

On Sunday there were problems with the whole site ... but that isn't happening now and I think the problem was solved a while ago.

Are you still unable to access Day 18 ?

If you do think that the problem may be with IE7 then why not download Firefox and see if that works OK ... there have actually been a few threads on the forum about problems with IE7.

If it helps any....I've had similar problems on videos not loading or loading and stopping and sometimes working fine...and I've had the same "...instruction at 0x0....." error message. It is frustrating.

Janet,

I have been using IE7 for several months now with no problems. I have read the threads that other people seem to have problems with IE7. Have you tried cleaning out the temporary internet files? That may help.

Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup

Thanks for all the advice! I haven't had a chance today to see how the videos are behaving.

I do empty the temp internet files regularly, but instead uf using disk cleanup I go to control panel>internet settings and do it from there. Does it make a difference?

Wendy, do you use Firefox for the Mac as well as the PC? I've been thinking of trying it...it seems I read somewhere on the forum that some of the Mac users prefer it to Safari.

Guess what? It seems that the problems have all disappeared since the maintenance last night, so I guess the problem wasn't my computer after all. I just watched Dave's new video and started three others without a hitch. No plugin or memory errors!

The training videos seem to be working, too. I just called customer service and they gladly extended my course for another week so I can review it, so I'm back to being a happy camper!:)

Thanks to all who offered advice!

Janet,
Check out the general elements questions where there is a thread about trouble downloading videos, it's pretty recent. A few of us have had problems downloading the tutes. Downloading and using firefox has worked for me, I was using IE7 with dial up and nothing would completely download. It might help you out if the problem pops up again, good luck, Fred.
