I just spent hours organizing my photos after taking the online course. I have a couple of questions that I need help with.
1. I have over 2000 pictures. Should I keep them all in the organizer?
2. I have already burned CD's as a backup. Should I get them on the organizer as well.
3. I have a catagory example "Christmas". Now I think I would like to have them by year. Should I make sub tags?
4. Most of my pictures are family. Is it best to organize by year, person, event or all.
5. If I have so many pictures in the organizer after I back them up on CD's should I delete them from my folders. Will that still save them on the organizer?
6. How many pictures should I keep on the organizer? Should I backup and store them by year, getting them off the organizer as well?

Sorry so many questions. Thanks so much.

Lotta questions there...but I will take a stab at answering them for you. Just so you know, I don't use the Organizer myself but have read a lot of the posts on these forums regarding it so I feel I can help. I will be quickly corrected if any of the info I give you here is incorrect. :) But in a nice way so I have no fear. Anyway, here goes:

1. I have over 2000 pictures. Should I keep them all in the organizer?

The Organizer is simply a database listing of all the pictures on your drives (Access I think) and not the pictures themselves. There are those who have thousands more than you have in it, and seem to be able to manage them effectively, so how many you have is up to you. Not sure if the Organizer has a limit or not.

2. I have already burned CD's as a backup. Should I get them on the organizer as well.

Again, see #1 above. My understanding also is that if you back up from the Organizer it will prompt you for the CD/DVD when you try to bring up the pictures.

3. I have a catagory example "Christmas". Now I think I would like to have them by year. Should I make sub tags?

How you organize is a personal choice governed by what works best for you. Everyone has their own preferences here. Sorry...not much help, but whatever works for you, do it!

4. Most of my pictures are family. Is it best to organize by year, person, event or all.

See #3. Again, not a whole lot of help, but everyone has their preferred method of organizing their stuff. What works for me may not work for you.

5. If I have so many pictures in the organizer after I back them up on CD's should I delete them from my folders. Will that still save them on the organizer?

See #'s 1 and 2 above. Deleting them from the hard drive will free up valuable disk space, though. I would make sure I have more than 1 copy of the CD/DVD and keep them separate from each other to be the safest.

6. How many pictures should I keep on the organizer? Should I backup and store them by year, getting them off the organizer as well?

See #'s 1, 2, and 5.

Hope that helps. Like I said at the beginning, if some of this is incorrect there are those that know the Organizer better than I. Good luck!

Hi- Not sure how much you are using tags vs. collections. One way to use tags is to tag people- so all of your pictures of your aunt are tagged as "Aunt Bess" and all the pictures of Uncle Joe are tagged as "Uncle Joe." Then you can find pictures of both of them together, if you needed to. For collections, you might to group things for a project, for example, if you're doing a scrapbook of your trip to Mexico, you could put all the pictures you want to use in the scrapbook in a collection called "Mexico book."

On your Christmas example, I have each Christmas under EVENTS > HOLIDAYS > CHRISTMAS > CHRISTMAS2006

There are certainly 'lots of ways to organize!

Good luck!
