Jodi came up with a great idea that we are now ready to implement starting on the 16th.
I have 19 names from the other thread where all this was developed and brought to reality. So if you signed up there you're still on my talent list.
This is open to anyone who wants to participate. We are creating a document that each person gets to contribute to so that the end is a culmination of many talents.
DIAL-UP -- we'd like to offer you the chance to go early in the game, mainly because this file will be huge and down/upload times can be trying when you are on dial-up So if you have dial-up PM me so I can make a note of your name and your connectivity.
The rules are pretty basic:
1. Each person gets one layer to use (this can be multiple layers merged into one).
2. Each person gets an opportunity to work on the file before the next person is notified
3. Each person's work is their own layer and it wouldn't hurt to put your forum name as the layer name, so if someone likes the effect they can get in touch with you for further discussion.
4. When you are finished with your turn PM me so I can let the next person on the list know it is time to be creative.
5. The final outcome will be posted to pixentral to save me some bandwidth on my website.
I'll post the instructions for the website use in the next topic -- so it will be near the top for easy reference.

Website access and guidelines.
It has been discovered that when uploading the file you must wait until the file name appears on the page before it is complete. If you don't wait it will generate an error when the next person downloads.
File name will be project00 to start and then be incremented by 1 (project01, 02, etc. There is a rename field for this purpose because the file won't overwrite an existing file. I'll manage the files by deleting the older ones. This way we won't have any OOPS! disappointments.
The file is downloaded using the down-arrow next to the file name and you'll always want to download the file with the highest number to its name.
UPLOAD NOTE: Upload seems to be slow so give it time to work.
DOWNLOAD -- seems to run pretty fast so it is OK. Also be sure to click on the down arrow next to the file -- clicking the filename may not work according to our test experience.
Additional Note: The upload only accepts a PSD file so no other file type can be uploaded -- this is a Photoshop Elements Project so that is the only file format we need.

Will, you are the best ! ..I know I've told you that over an over but it's true...you are amazing ! Thanks again for all you have done. Will Presley for President !!!
...I wanted to mention...this is a scrapbook page..we all need to ad a 'little' something. Eventually it will be completely filled.
Please be considerate of others when adding images to the canvas.

Jodi,
I have been away so am not up to date on this ... is the final thing going to be one scrapbook page? and does that mean that we each just add a little bit to the image ??
Oh help :)
Wendy
Jodi Frye
August 15th, 2005, 09:46 AM
Wendy, yup, that's pretty much it ! ..a group project if you wish.
You will have your chance to download the file and add a little something to it...then you will upload it for the next person in line to work on it. It will stay in layers and all participants will be adding one.
Even just adding one little embelishment is good. It's a scrapbook page and we know there are plenty of trinkest and embelishments to go with the photos/images...whichever you decide to add is up to you. Just have fun with it !
PS try not to spill too much glue ;)
Wendy

Thank you :)

Hey that's a good idea Gary. I find that even with the buttons on the graphire I am still reaching for the key board. Perhaps I should program one of my buttons on the pen for Ctrl J which I use a lot! Never thought of it!! I know I use the buttons on the intuos for brush size which is great (except I do have to cross my arm over to the right side, as I've left the left ones as Ctrl, space, shift and alt. I find I don't use the zoom in feature. It's fickle and seems to work when it wants so I end up doing + & - instead.

I think, when all is said and done, we should each write a mini-tut on how we did our respective contributions to what is turning out to be a fine, fine project.
I know I learned something and it was completely by accident. If I hadn't stumbled onto what I did I would still be working on it. I was searching for tutorials for what I had in mind, couldn't find anything that appealed to me (that's what the majority of my time was spent doing) and then I had a epiphany moment. It turned out to be a bad idea, but it lead to a good one by accident. Once I had that idea worked out, I need something to improve it. I couldn't figure out how to do my second improvement, but by searching withing PSE for that item, I stumbled on the next item... The trial and error each of you did would be interesting to me. Even if you didn't have any error...
Gotta say that tablet I bought would have made the work much easier, but I'm on the road again so it's back to the stick mouse.
So, how does that sound. Each person responsible for a layer needs to be working on a written mini-tut on how they did it. If you send it to me, I'll post it as a PDF that can be downloaded from a site I have. I'll even put links to your layer on the web page.
Just let me know.

... Like that idea.
Mine was a bit complicated as I made not only the bag but also all the things that went into it so may not be able to go into how I made all of them.
I'll see what I can do with maybe one of the items :)

Good point Wendy... You wouldn't have to explain every item in your addition because you used the same technique for almost each. The idea would be to touch on the major, unique techniques used and keep it simple. Same for everyone so far. Once you've told us how to do one thing, no need to discuss duplicates.
I plan to cover the discovery process in mine. How I stumbled onto what I did...

I think that it might be time to add some photos .... maybe in keeping with the "theme" of Linda's addition (without giving it away to those who have not peeked :D ). Just a thought ....... I decided to leave that up to the "real" photographers in the group.
Isn't that the purpose of scrapping ..... preserving photo memories ?? I was too CHICKEN to add one  .

Hi Everyone,
Is there any way that those of us who are not doing this, will be able to see what's actually being done. I'm not entered in this project but am interested to see what you people are doing. If it is possible can you give me and anyone else who's interested the steps to take to follow along.
Or do we just have to wait until it is all finished to see the results?

I just couldn't wait and had a look again. I'm getting nervous as my time is nearing. Maybe looking will help with inspiration. Yikes, what am I going to do.........well I went and had my shower and BONG, the idea came into my head. It must have been the inspiration of reading both Jodi and Wendy's posts about where their ideas come from that helped me. So now I have my idea, and my fingers crossed that the "spot" will still be open and the idea will be okay.
Wendy when you "make" things like the purse, do you do it on it's own file and just add it to your work or do you do it all at once..........or is it one of those things that you just go with the flo with. I'm thinking it might be better to do my "piece" first and then just add it to the file. (and I wonder why I can't get a couple tutorials done a day --- 9:30 am, still haven't eaten or walked the dog----darn this forum  )
Wendy
August 26th, 2005, 09:39 AM
Pauline,
I make them in their own file then add them ... its easier that way.
For the bag first I had to make two lots of material, then the bag itself, pockets, handles, trimmings and handle holders (14 layers) then I had to make each tool (minimum 2 layers each) ... all in all there are 32 layers in it. ... plus shadow layers. All of the tools come out of the pockets and are complete ...
So I make things like that in its own file then save it for future use ...

Thanks for the explaination Wendy. Now I understand that you make the fabric.......when you made the purse did you actually draw it too or was it a stamp/cutout that you used on the fabric? The same with the tools? Yes, I know I'm digging pretty deep into your head, but inquiring minds want to know.

OK -- I've converted the files to JPEG so you can download to see the progress of the week, to keep the page clean I've deleted all of last week's files.
Also - I had to use the page for the beginners as there didn't seem to be a way to create another page just for them. But the file name is different and shouldn't create a problem.
We now have 5 participants in the beginner00 series -- so I'm glad that more people are trying it out.

It was the resolution of the image when I reduced it to 72 from 299 it made a huge difference in the file size now it is just over 2 mb.

The JPEGS are there so you can peek.

I peeked. Very nice.
It would be nice for us peekers if you would take each stage image and create a web gallery and post it. Maybe with a caption indentifying who did each stage with a note on technique used?
I will peek again later to see the progress.
You are filling up the page. I there a photo already picked out somewhere that will be added or is that up to one of the contributors?
willpresley
September 2nd, 2005, 06:04 PM
Karen I like your idea of posting the pictures with information but I'm not at that level yet with my web programming -- for now we are relying on JPEG files to show progress; but alas it doesn't contain the layers like the PSD file does and hopefully everyone is naming the layer after their forum name so you can ask about a particular effect.
There has been a little talk about a picture but it really is up to each person in their turn to decide what to do with the scrapbook page -- so we'll just have to wait until it is complete or until someone puts a picture to it.
I am hosting this project and you are welcome to join in -- I can add you to the list -- or if you prefer I also have a beginner page started. In any case you can join in where you feel comfortable.

RULE MODIFICATION:
In the interest of keeping a momentum for this scrap book project I have given some thought to putting a time limit on each turn. This will work out because sometimes life has a way of taking us away from something.
The result of not getting your part done in 72 hours (3 days) will be your getting moved to the bottom of the list. You'll not lose your work but you may have to adjust to fit the page due to other additions.
If anyone objects to this ruling please respond via the thread. Thank You!

RULE MODIFICATION:
The result of not getting your part done in 72 hours (3 days) will be your getting moved to the bottom of the list. You'll not lose your work but you may have to adjust to fit the page due to other additions. Will,
