I am new to the forum and don't really know where to go with this. So I will start a new thread and you all can guide to the right place.
I have been using elements 4 for about a year now and love it, BUT, just the other day I wanted to make a slide show but everytime I get in the "creat a slide show mode" and try to arrange the slides the computer shuts down at any attempt. Everything else works with the exception of doing anything with arranging photos. I can even add a blank frame and put text in it, but when I try to move it the whole computer shuts down. I can do everythig except that and it's driving me nuts. Has anyone experinced such a thing?

This forum is specifically for version 5 - so I guess that the Beginners forum might have been a better place. Just keep that info for future reference and we can discuss your current problem right here.

Also, I don't quite understand what you mean by "move it". Are you saying when you try to change the sequence of the slides? Is it only for a slide where you added a frame and text, that you have the problems? Or do you have the same problem even when you try to move a slide that had neither frame nor text added to it?

Potentially good news -
If your problem relates to arranging the sequence of the photos, there is a different approach that might help you avoid this problem.

If all the photos that you are using in the slide show are in the Organizer, then you can make a PSE COLLECTION before you start the slide show creation. Within the PSE Collection, drag and drop the photo thumbnails to get the sequence that you wish. While you are displaying a Collection, do an Edit - Select All and : then start the Creation process. (suggest you read the Help topics on Collection if you have never done one)

With that approach you may be able to avoid the need to change the sequence of the photos when you are in the Creation process - and hopefully you can avoid the problem.

Note; in some versions you can add photo files to a slide show even if they are not cataloged in the Organizer: you just add them from the Windows folder. That sometimes did give me weird behaviors, so I decided to not use the approach of adding from the Windows folder.

Thanks for the info. Yes, the only problem I have is trying to change the sequence of the slides in the "creat a slide show feature". I can add a blank and do anything to the blank like add text or whatever, but if I try to change the sequence it shuts the whole computer down like I pulled the plug. , I think it's a OS problem. I think I'm going to try to reload Windows. Thanks for the help, I'll get back with you after I reload the OS.

From what you have posted, I do not see any reason to suspect a windows problem - so if it were me I would not reload Windows for this specific problem.

I don't think you answered my question of whether you were bringing these photos in to the slide show from within the Organizer or whether you were bringing them in to the slide show from a Windows folder?

Unfortunately those error messages do not help me to analyze where your problem might be. So all that I can suggest is

- consider if it is consistently a specific photo file or a specific file type that you are manipulating when you get this crash

- do you have any video files within this slide show ? which format?

- what file type are your photo files - jpg tif psd ?

- what is the shortest duration that you have specified? the longest?

If none of the above isolate the cause of the problem, then you could use this circumvention I suggested:

You can make a PSE COLLECTION before you start the slide show creation. Within the PSE Collection, drag and drop the photo thumbnails to get the sequence that you wish. When you are ready to start the slide show, display that Collection, do an Edit - Select All and : then start the Creation process. (suggest you read the Help topics on Collection if you have never done one)

With that approach you may be able to avoid the need to change the sequence of the photos when you are in the Creation process - and hopefully you can avoid the problem.

I didn't read everything but just kind of skimmed the info. Have you said how much ram you have and how much disk space you have on your computer?

I found Elements was shutting down on me and I had to increase my ram.
