Problem curving objects

Problem: I frequently want to curve objects (e.g. a rope around a pole, decals on balloons) and have tried a number of things including Filter>Distort>Shear to no effect. Any suggestions? Thanx.

Hilma,

are you aware that the Shear Filter will only bend vertical objects?

If a rope e.g. runs horizontally across your image, it will not do anything. You have to rotate it first and then after using the filter, rotate it back.
I always put the object on its own canvas to do this.
