Previously there had been some talk about if you could upgrade educational versions of PS. I have the educational version of CS2. I just pre-ordered CS3 Design Standard Upgrade in the regular form (not educational) for $240. I was not interested in the other version, but I could have ordered that instead, but don't know the cost. I phoned Adobe directly as I could not find information regarding this on their website. I just thought that I would share the joy!!!

That is good to know.

I think the upgrade issue was something that used to be and because most don't have access to that version it was somewhat murky as to what is, or is not upgradeable.

I do know I checked out the University Tech Store where my son goes and on their website it says that the Academic version of CS2 is upgradable as per regular upgrade pricing.

I have the educational version of CS2 and have inquired about an upgrade to CS3 from the site where I purchased it (in Australia). I was told that I couldn't upgrade this product and I would have to buy the new educational version of CS3 which would be about the same price as an upgrade anyway!

I have done a bit of digging around and found this ...

http://www.adobe.com/uk/education/students/studentedition/faq.html

If you scroll down to "License" near the bottom you will see this:

Can Student Editions be upgraded?

* Student Editions can be upgraded to a commercial version.

Now that certainly has changed .. at one time you were unable to upgrade to the full commercial version.

Here is what the situation was in 2002 :)

Yes, that is what I did....upgraded to the commercial version. I thought that it was still a good deal considering the cost of a full new version. I would have to think that the same offer would be allowed in other countries. I called Adobe directly and ordered it from them. They were really pleasant to work with.
