Hi all,

Does anyone know what could be causing this problem? I am on dial up so I know it takes a while to download the videos. I would simply set it to download and walk away. A half hour later or so I would come back and watch the video. Once it was downloaded, I could refer to it whenever I chose to as long as I never deleted my cookies. Now, when I try to download new ones the process will work for a few minutes then about a quarter of the way through it will say "done" and that is the end of it. I tried deleting all my cookies and starting over but am still having the same trouble. Even when I am utilizing a WIFI connection the problem occurs. Anyone? Thanks for your help.

Hi JoAnne

I don't know if this will help... I hope it might.

I save the videos to my hard drive. After viewing the video online in Internet Explorer (can't seem to get it to work in Firefox-my preferred browser) I go to

'START/CONTROL PANEL/INTERNET OPTIONS'.

Under 'BROWSING HISTORY' I choose 'SETTING'

Under 'TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES' choose 'VIEW FILES'.

Scroll through the files until you find the appropriate Quick Time Movie (.mov) file.

Right clicking on the file allows you to copy it. I paste the file into a folder I've created on my 'C' drive for PSE Videos.

The file is now installed on your hard drive and you can watch it off line by double clicking the icon.

Good Luck

Donn

You are not alone JoAnne, I wish I could give you a better response than I am in the same boat you are. The exact thing happens to me. I cannot find an answer in this forum or Quicktimes forum or any website I've googled over the past few weeks since I paid 30 bucks for quicktime pro to save the downloads from here. I get anywhere from 5% to 70% of a download before it just stops. I have been to other websites and downloaded without any problems, ie lynda.com last night. So far this website is the only problem I've had downloading videos. I e-mailed customer service with no response. If anyone has an answer please let us know.
I also use dial-up with IE7 browser,
Thanks, Fred.

I have been having trouble viewing entire videos (mainly the Making a Wood Frame)( I know it actually has a different title, but can't think of it at the moment) video. It looks like it doesn't load all the way and at about the midway point it stops entirely or starts over. Most of the other videos are fine. Hope it gets resolved soon.

Have you tried clearing the browser's cache before starting the download? In IE go to Tools -> Internet Options and on the General tab click "Delete Files" under the Temporary Internet Files (IE6) or click "Delete" under Browsing History in IE7 and delete the temporary internet files before you start the download. The cache may not be clearing properly during the download.

And in Firefox, you need to download the "MediaPlayerConnectivity" extension to be able to play videos.

Thanks for the input Genevh but that's not it, tried it. I attempted 2 more videos today with the same result.

And your not getting disconnected at any time during the downloads? Seeing any error messages?

Just a quick bit of info for you Firefox users. I used to use IE just to download the videos until I found an extension for Firefox that works well, called UnPlug. It can be found at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2254. I no longer use IE at all as this plug-in makes it easy to download video from the web.

Deleting the Temparary Internet Files worked for me, I didn't even think about doing that since I clean it out so often.:p

Hi,
this is my way of saving the videos using Firefox.
Play your video and when it's finished do the following -
In the white area alongside where it says Close - right click.
Then Right Click - View Page Info.
Then Click Media - RT Click Embed.
Save to location of your choice and that's it.
Hope this helps any Firefox users who are having trouble saving the videos.
Kev.

I'm not getting knocked offline and no error messages.
I've tried updating flash player, lowering internet security(Temporarily), disableing norton, different download speed settings, I cannot get 1 video 100% downloaded from here.
I'm lucky if I get 40% before it stops.
Thanks again for any input, Fred.

Hi Fred ...

Are you talking about the Videos in the Subscriber Area or the ones for the Online Classes ??

If its the Subscriber Area ... have you updated Quicktime ?

Its interesting that the ones on dialup are having the problems with the downloads. I was thinking in Fred's case maybe he was getting dropped and his dialer program was re-dialing when it detected the sudden disconnect. If that's not the case, then it might be noise on the line that is interfering with the modem and the file error checking as it downloads, but yet you can download from other sites with no problems. This is interesting. I had issues just with staying connected sometimes when I was on dial-up, but was blaming that on the cheap internal modems I was using then.

There are some registry tweaks that can be done to maximize your connection. Check PC Pitstop (http://www.pcpitstop.com/default.asp) out. They have a full battery of tests you can run on your PC, and tests and some utilities that will help you tweak your internet settings. It may help you here. You may want to start at their Internet Connection Center (http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/default.asp).

I used to have some links to other sites that specialize in internet connection tests and tweaks, but I seem to have lost them.

I have quicktime pro 7.1.5, it's updated. Trying to download the tutorials. "Quicktimes windows forum" has one thread labled "Quicktime with ie7" with over 5000 views, sounds like a lot of people with ie7 are having problems.
I've been there a half dozen times to view the thread but it will not open, I keep getting a blank re-loading page....go figure! (the other threads open without a problem) I'm guessing issues with ie7 is the problem, though I can still download from other websites.

Hi Fred ...

People have had problems with quicktime here too ... one of the things that seems to have worked is uninstalling it and then downloading a new copy and installing that.

UPDATE
I went ahead and downloaded Mozilla Firefox browser to try that. After the download stops (done) and you know the entire video is not there because the status bar isn't complete yet, you have to close quicktime and then re-click the video link again to restart the download from where it stopped. You may have to do this 3,4 or 5 times with a dial-up connection but eventually the entire video will download.
THIS DID NOT WORK WITH IE7
So try Firefox, it's about a 6 mb file and it's a painless install, you don't have to get rid of IE you can use both just not at the same time.
