View Full Version : New Disc!

The install of Photoshop Elements was made on my C: disc.
This works fine, with the photos from many years photography being neatly tagged. Now we have reached the limit of disc space (80 GB). I thought that the best method of preserving the tagging, slideshows etc. would be to purchase a new (500GB) harddisc. I already save all photos on DVD and an external harddisc, but would like fast access to the "originals".
Is it possible to move all photos from C: to the new disc, and preserve the tags?
Many thanks in advance
Colin

Hi Colin ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
Yes you should be able to move the images ... although not Elements itself.
I'm a Mac user so can't help on the detail of how to do it but hopefully one of the Windows users will be along soon and will be able to help you ...

Colin, hopefully some of the Organizer experts on the forum will be along shortly. However, this snippet from the Organizer help may be helpful:
In the Photo Browser, you can move photos, video clips, and audio clips to other folders and change their file names. If you move files in the Photo Browser, Photoshop Elements remembers the new location and you won’t get a “missing file” alert later, as you do when you move the file manually.
This would seem to imply that the safest method is to move within Elements, but I'm just don't know...

Many thanks Janet!
The instructions seem to work, but after moving the pictures the display is "mixed up". Restarting the program shows the correct results!
It seems a bit hairy, but as they say, its the result that counts!

I'm glad it worked for you, Colin! I haven't done it myself, but I know it's only a matter of time before I need to do it, so I saved the link.

As I said Janet, it was a bit hairy since the pictures seem to have moved all over the place!
But in reallity it seems to have worked fine!
Important to follow the instructions - remember to perform
"File - Reconnect -All missing files"
before you start moving pictures to clear up any missing links.
Photoshop elements removes the source directory when the files have been copied to the new disc.
My advice is to perform a full backup prior to moving pictures since if the new disc should fail...
Best of luck, and thanks again for your help
/Colin
