View Full Version : Newbie....Why do the images in PSE 3.0

look so awful? When I open a Raw image in the ACR window,or open a jpg in Elements 3.0 Editor, the image stinks.Colors are splotchy, hard to interpret, and look totally different from the jpg viewed in Windows picture and fax Viewer.

I'm probably not explaining it well. It's not like a color cast. It's more that the image in the RAW editor or the PSE3.0 Editor is a VERY poor image.I was looking at a portrait of my wife. Her skin-tones were a wreck.Where I see a nice, smooth transition in Windows Viewer,Elements is rough. There are irregular, grainy blotches of color.

For example, where her normal skin tone changes to a slightly more reddish tone,in PSE it is abrupt(not a smooth transition),It is grainy and blotchy(looks like a rash, with visible borders). It's not an overall "dull" or "flat" look like an unprocessed RAW can be,but has areas of blotchy, but well saturated colors. It just looks like an image taken with a VERY,VERY inferior camera. When I have adjusted the image and "saved" it,the image in Window's Viewer looks great. But the poor images in PSE make it difficult to tell what I'll get after PP.(I've done Adobe gamma on the monitor).Did that make sense?

Am I doing something wrong? Are there Raw editors that display a better image than ACR?(I'd guess WYSIWYG with images in PSE3 Editor's viewer unless I use a different PP program). Thanks for any help!

Hey...I'm a newbie and I'm having the same problem. I uploaded pictures from my digital and they look fien in Browser, but when I go to quickfix or editor they look distorted. For instance as a test I uploaded my face, and in browser it looked like what was on my camera, but in quickfix and editor my cheeks look purple and my entire face is a different color, almost like a heat reading. I'm using Elements on Windows. Any help?

you can try this ..go to toolbar>edit>preferences>saving files>check 'ignore camera exif'

Also, Photoshop Elements is a color managed program unlike most other non'Adobe applications. Elements installed ' Adobe Gamma' which should be located in your control panel. This will help you calibrate your monitor for color.
